Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, product engineering, maintenance, quality, procurement, IT, OT, EHS, and business leadership.

• Design and implement automation solutions for machining, fabrication, assembly, material handling, and other related manufacturing processes.

• Assess automation opportunities and transform manufacturing requirements into safe, repeatable, and production-ready concepts.

• Assist in automation projects from the initial concept to the production launch.

• Create automation concepts, layouts, simulations, cycle-time estimates, and technical specifications.

• Conduct simulations for robot reach, payload, interference, and process.

• Support capital estimates, ROI business cases, equipment scopes, and project documentation.

• Engage in vendor selection, RFQs, design reviews, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup processes.

• Work closely with controls, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, EHS, suppliers, and integrators to address technical challenges.

• Diagnose and enhance existing robotic and automated manufacturing systems.

• Record lessons learned and assist in replicating successful automation solutions across different sites.

• Support automation and advanced manufacturing standards, roadmap, and preferred technology strategies.

• Investigate emerging technologies such as robotics, vision systems, simulation, digital twins, and AI-enabled manufacturing.

• Offer hands-on technical support and share knowledge with site engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Automation/Controls, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 3 years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, robotics, controls, or advanced manufacturing.

• Practical experience with industrial robots and automation equipment in a production setting.

• Capability to design automation concepts, cell layouts, tooling strategies, and equipment interfaces.

• Proficiency in robot or manufacturing simulation, offline programming, or digital manufacturing tools.

• Strong knowledge of machine safety, controls, integration, manufacturing processes, and production readiness.

• Excellent skills in project execution, problem-solving, documentation, and collaboration across functions.

• Willingness to travel as needed to support enterprise manufacturing locations.

• Experience in automation or robotics within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

• Familiarity with industrial robots; FANUC experience preferred, with ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa/Motoman knowledge also valuable.

• Knowledge of robot simulation and offline programming tools such as FANUC ROBOGUIDE, Process Simulate, Visual Components, or similar.

• Proficient in 3D CAD, equipment layouts, reach studies, cycle-time analysis, and design-for-automation principles.

• Experience with machine vision, inspection, and robotic guidance systems.

• Knowledge of automated material handling, end-of-arm tooling, fixtures, and sensor integration.

• Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, MES, SCADA, OEE, or manufacturing data systems.

• Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, production launch, and structured root-cause problem-solving techniques.

• Lean or Six Sigma certification.
