Associate General Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Manage employment and general litigation matters throughout the Americas, with a primary focus on the U.S. and Canada.

• Offer legal advice on employment-related topics, specifically regarding California regulations.

• Recognize and address compliance risks, as well as potential and existing claims against the Company and its affiliates.

• Supervise external legal counsel and oversee employment litigation, general litigation, agency charges, audits, investigations, demand letters, and claims.

• Enforce agreements with temporary staffing agencies and other providers of contingent labor.

• Lead a team of corporate counsel and legal operations professionals based in the U.S.

• Manage legal operations, encompassing matter and knowledge management, legal technology and systems, engagement with outside counsel, legal expenditures and budgets, reporting, metrics, and workflow enhancements.

• Handle corporate governance issues, entity maintenance, corporate documentation, board and committee support, delegation of authority, signature policies, and regulatory submissions.

• Collaborate with People/HR, Product, Contracts, Finance, Operational Compliance, Privacy, Information Security, and business leadership.

• Act as a senior member of the global Legal leadership team, taking on duties assigned by the General Counsel.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree.

• Active member in good standing of a State Bar or the District of Columbia.

• 10-15+ years of experience in employment and litigation; a mix of in-house and law firm experience is preferred.

• Required experience in California wage and hour laws and PAGA.

• Strong understanding of labor and employment laws and regulations across various jurisdictions.

• Self-driven, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and ready to take on significant responsibilities.

• Previous experience in managing and developing a team of attorneys and/or legal professionals.

• Experience in overseeing or establishing legal operations capabilities, including matter management, legal technology, management of outside counsel and expenditures, process enhancement, and departmental reporting.

• Familiarity with corporate governance and entity management practices, including board and committee support, corporate records, and delegation of authority is advantageous.

• Proven ability to manage outside counsel and litigation budgets for a distributed, multi-state/country workforce.

• Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
