Associate Director of Development I, Latin America Region

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with the Senior Associate Director of Development for Latin America, TNC Relationship Managers, and fundraising leaders to identify, nurture, solicit, and manage relationships with donors for major or principal gifts.

• Contribute to the conservation and fundraising objectives of Latin America, particularly focusing on TNC’s initiatives in Brazil.

• Implement complex donor-strategy principles while assisting Relationship Managers and TNC leadership in advocating for both global and local priorities.

• Work collaboratively across chapters and programs while overseeing a network for referrals.

• Accompany Latin America leadership on trips.

• Lead a variety of initiatives, project outcomes, and propose solutions to enhance effectiveness.

• Act as a liaison with regional, global, development, conservation, public-sector, and private-sector teams.

• Aid in achieving the US $40M FY27 fundraising target and support the aim of doubling philanthropic revenue by 2030.

• Engage Relationship Managers, Business Units, Divisions, and Regions in the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of international prospects and donors capable of contributing over US $100,000, particularly in Brazil.

• Facilitate donor and leadership engagement opportunities in Brazil, which include donor meetings, regional trips, in-person events, and leadership visits.

• Oversee a portfolio comprising 25 to 50 Relationship Managers.

• Conduct 25 to 50 visits with Relationship Managers and make 75 to 150 moves annually.

• Establish and achieve fundraising targets, assess outcomes, and formulate corrective strategies as needed.

• Manage internal review processes for international solicitations and donations at local, regional, and global levels.

• Compose tailored donor correspondence, proposals, stewardship notes, and reports in collaboration with the Donor Communications team.

• Support the creation and execution of collaborative, multifaceted, and diverse fundraising projects.

• Coordinate the efforts of other development professionals and ensure accountability.

• Utilize TNC’s donor database for updating information, generating reports, analyzing data, and tracking and cultivating donors.

• Effectively communicate TNC’s mission to various audiences.

• Uphold travel and event policies and procedures.

• Ensure adherence to TNC policies, procedures, and donor, legal, and IRS requirements.

• Safeguard the confidentiality of sensitive information.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

• Proven ability to build and sustain long-term relationships with major and principal gift donors, volunteers, and staff.

• Experience in soliciting and securing gifts of $100,000 or more is advantageous.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and executing fundraising strategies, including cultivation, solicitation, and recognition approaches.

• Strong project management skills, encompassing coordination of activities led by others and managing deadlines effectively.

• Ability to assess an individual’s interests, capacity, and potential to assist the Conservancy in achieving its objectives, and to align those interests with the Conservancy’s mission.

• Background, coursework, or training in current and emerging trends in charitable giving, especially regarding capital campaigns, major gifts, and planned giving.

• Experience collaborating across departments and with multiple teams.

• Demonstrated competence in utilizing listening skills, diplomacy, and tact to cultivate strong relationships and engage donors and volunteers.

• Proven ability to negotiate complex, high-profile, or sensitive agreements.

• Experience in generating reports and analyzing as well as interpreting data.

• Familiarity with the Latin America region.

• Proficiency in English and Portuguese; knowledge of Spanish is a plus.

• Experience in multicultural or cross-cultural environments.

• Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally frequently and at short notice, and to work long hours and weekends as required.
