Associate Director, Computational Biology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Master's or PhD in a relevant scientific, data, or informatics discipline, or equivalent depth of experience in lieu of an advanced degree.

• Over 8 years of progressive experience in scientific research, biomedical data management, data governance, research data curation, or a closely related field.

• Proven leadership in complex, multi-stakeholder data or collaborative science initiatives.

• Experience participating in multi-institutional collaborations and consortia.

• More than 3 years of experience in directly managing, mentoring, and/or developing data managers, computational biologists, bioinformaticians, or community engagement professionals.

• A successful track record of securing research funding, including at least one competitive NIH or equivalent award.

• Proficient in navigating the proposal lifecycle, including opportunity identification, partner collaboration, budget and effort planning, and post-award reporting.

• Demonstrated expertise in applying open science and FAIR data principles, while promoting responsible data sharing for human subjects data.

• Familiarity with GA4GH standards or similar genomic/clinical data-sharing frameworks.

• Experience in building or engaging a research community around a shared data resource or platform.

• Skilled in collaborating with and coordinating external scientists or consortium partners.

• Proficient in managing funder relationships and effectively communicating scientific and data value to program officers and sponsors.

• Capable of operating strategically while remaining connected to data operations and community activities.

• Ability to influence decisions and foster alignment across teams and leaders without solely relying on formal authority.

• Strong judgment and capability to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and evolving organizational needs.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Able to perform effectively under tight deadlines.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
