Associate Director – Bay Area Local Advocacy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Advocate for policy changes and cultivate strategic relationships to guarantee that Bay Area charter school members have equitable access to resources and support.

• Engage with local elected representatives and stakeholders.

• Lead advocacy campaigns for schools.

• Establish and sustain relationships with authorizers, charter school leaders, community partners, district personnel, and elected officials.

• Organize meetings, training sessions, and webinars for charter school members.

• Act as the primary contact for charter schools, addressing inquiries and providing advocacy and policy guidance.

• Create, support, and disseminate communications such as newsletters.

• Prepare for meetings with charter leaders and school site visits.

• Document meeting and conversation notes, member communications, local votes, contact points, and meetings in Salesforce.

• Coordinate grassroots initiatives and rally community support.

• Tackle charter-related policy issues within priority school districts and county education offices.

• Develop and execute advocacy campaigns that address local issues and support charter school renewals.

• Promote equitable access to facilities, funding, technology, and transparent oversight.

• Engage local leaders in discussions regarding policy priorities and advocacy strategies.

• Provide support for legislative advocacy and involve members to gain their backing.

• Assist with campaign efforts at both local and state levels for CCSA Advocates.

• Collaborate with local advocacy teams and cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives.

• Enhance public relations and creative services by sharing member stories for media exposure.

• Contribute to strategic planning for the Northern California local advocacy team.

• Assist with CCSA-sponsored events, including the annual Charter Schools Conference.

• Monitor advocacy progress, outcomes, metrics, and successes.

• Assess advocacy strategies and propose improvements.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in public education, public policy, advocacy, or a related area.

• Exceptional communication and public speaking abilities.

• Skills in relationship-building that foster trust.

• Comprehensive understanding of the local educational environment.

• Outstanding organizational and project management capabilities.

• Must currently reside in or be willing to relocate to the Bay Area Region, California.

• Ability to travel and possess reliable transportation.

• Willingness to travel throughout the region for internal and external meetings, school visits, and board meetings, including overnight travel for staff retreats, conferences, and other CCSA-related events, approximately 30% of the time.

• Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends based on organizational requirements.
