Assistant Vice President – Insurance and Operational Accounting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Supervise the accounting processes related to reserve and reinsurance settlements across all legal entities and reporting frameworks.

• Manage monthly journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations, which include EBS balances.

• Direct the accounting and journal entries for reinsurance settlements and reserves in conjunction with Reinsurance Operations and Actuarial.

• Examine and confirm data inputs utilized for settlement and reserve accounting.

• Oversee daily and month-end cash activity accounting.

• Prepare entries for Sidecar transactions/balances and Modco payables.

• Supervise operational accounting functions encompassing R2R, accounts payable, accounts receivable, travel and expense, TPA, corporate expenses, debt, and fixed assets.

• Ensure adherence to internal policies regarding intercompany allocations and settlements.

• Manage quarterly ledger feeds, establish new accounts, and allocate legal entities.

• Implement internal controls, account reconciliations, and variance resolutions.

• Identify opportunities for enhancements in ledger feed processing, reserve automation, and system integration.

• Contribute to the coordination of quarterly close activities and ledger integrity assessments.

• Collaborate with the offshore team to track deliverables and address issues.

• Institute process improvements through standardization, automation, and documentation.

• Prepare supporting schedules and respond to audit inquiries.

• Work with analytics to align ledger inputs with analytic outputs.

• Mentor and guide senior associates and analysts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or CA designation is preferred.

• At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience in the Life & Annuity (re)insurance sector, public accounting, or auditing.

• Strong understanding of US GAAP, US STAT, SFS, and EBS accounting principles and reporting standards.

• Experience with legal entity accounting, intercompany transactions, reserves, reinsurance, expense accounting, and/or financial analytics.

• Capability to execute and uphold internal controls, reconciliations, and ledger accuracy.

• Experience in preparing or reviewing journal entries and fluctuation analyses.

• Familiarity with internal and external audits and the ability to respond to audit inquiries with clarity and proper documentation.

• Strong Excel proficiency.

• Experience with ERP and accounting systems like SAP and Workday.

• Knowledge of reporting platforms such as Coupa, Workiva, Power BI, or similar.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written communication abilities.

• Capable of working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and managing shifting priorities.

• Ability to collaborate with Actuarial, Reinsurance Operations, Treasury, FP&A, and external partners.

• Leadership experience in mentoring or managing staff while promoting a collaborative, results-oriented culture.
