This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Uphold artistic direction and quality standards.
• Collaborate with Leads and fellow Lighting Artists to develop high-quality lighting schemes that align with the project's universe and visual direction.
• Illuminate scenes or levels using reference photographs and/or concept art materials.
• Enhance narrative storytelling through the effective use of color, light, and mood.
• Light scenes, levels, or cinematics in accordance with creative and technical briefs and deadlines.
• Engage in reviews and incorporate feedback from leads and peers.
• Contribute to R&D initiatives to explore new techniques and enhance pipelines and workflows.
• Collaborate with developers across various disciplines to ensure integration of work into the build.
• Balance visual quality with game performance requirements.
• Review and playtest work both in the editor and in-game.
• Over 3 years of experience in AAA console/PC game development, including at least 1 year utilizing Unreal Engine.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating world and local lighting work.
• Ability to artistically interpret concepts and creatively extend beyond initial ideas.
• Solid traditional art skills and foundational design competencies in shape, form, texture, value, and color.
• Comprehensive understanding of Physically Based Rendering workflows.
• Awareness of current-generation console performance limitations and opportunities.
• Capability to create lighting content, including textures, IES profiles, HDR maps, materials, and scripts.
• Familiarity with basic photography concepts such as EV, shutter speed, ISO, and composition.
• Ability to accept and integrate feedback effectively.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new styles, techniques, and workflows.
• Capacity to collaborate with department leads and various departments to address artistic and technical challenges.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Preferred: Degree in any art-related field.
• Preferred: Photography experience.
• Preferred: Proficiency in Unreal Engine or another game engine.
• Preferred: Working knowledge of Renderman, V-Ray, or Arnold.
• Preferred: Breakdown or work-in-progress images of completed lighting projects.
