
Application Engineer β HVAC

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
β’ Evaluate HVAC design drawings, mechanical plans, specifications, control schematics, plumbing layouts, and P&ID diagrams to create hydronic system solutions and ensure proper product selection and system integration.
β’ Assist representative firms and consulting engineers with recommendations for system optimization.
β’ Offer technical expertise on pump control strategies, delta-T optimization, sensor placement, and enhancing operating costs.
β’ Develop technical documentation and proposals for Armstrong's offerings.
β’ Engage in site walk-throughs, customer meetings, and design reviews in collaboration with sales personnel.
β’ Present technical information and conduct walk-back sessions for consulting engineers and contractors.
β’ Clarify complex system interactions and the integration of Armstrong products within HVAC system architectures.
β’ Convert field data and project specifications into design strategies and technical proposals.
β’ Utilize selection tools to create proposals, energy models, and quotations.
β’ Aid the Territory Lead in assessing CRM opportunities, sizing, controls compatibility, and application feasibility.
β’ Configure and document recommended systems according to customer specifications and field conditions.
β’ Work together with Product Management and Engineering on reviews of custom applications and edge-case analyses.
β’ Join RSEC team discussions and alignment meetings throughout the Americas.
β’ Support special technical projects as assigned by management.
β’ Develop and enhance internal technical materials, FAQs, and best-practice guides.
β’ A college diploma or university degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Technology, or a related field.
β’ At least 3 years of experience in manufacturing or mechanical systems design, with a focus on HVAC hydronics and plumbing applications.
β’ A minimum of 1 year in a customer-focused technical role, such as internal sales engineering, technical field service, or application support.
β’ Experience in interpreting mechanical drawings, control schematics, and documentation for hydronic systems.
β’ Capability to read and analyze control schematics, plumbing risers, and hydronic layouts.
β’ Knowledge of district energy applications and central plant systems, including variable-speed pumping, thermal storage, heat exchangers, and control loops.
β’ Familiarity with HVAC energy strategies such as ASHRAE 36, reset schedules, delta-T management, and decoupling techniques.
β’ Proficient in selection software tools and Microsoft Office.
β’ Technically articulate with strong written and verbal communication skills.
β’ Ability to independently tackle complex engineering problems and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
β’ Strong attention to detail, organizational abilities, and project follow-through.
β’ Capable of engaging in discussions with engineers and contractors and adjusting communication style to suit the audience.
β’ Remote work arrangement.
β’ Compensation ranging from $100k to $115k, depending on experience.
