AI Applications Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Identify opportunities where AI, computer vision, object detection, or visual language models can enhance customer production processes.

• Design and develop proofs of concept to validate AI-driven robotic solutions.

• Create documentation, sample code, and integration guidelines.

• Travel to customer locations for the installation, configuration, and commissioning of AI-enabled robotic cells.

• Oversee camera placement and calibration, model deployment, I/O configuration, testing, and sign-off.

• Troubleshoot on-site until successful deployment completion.

• Train customer operators and engineers on AI functionalities.

• Provide technical support post-installation as customers innovate new applications.

• Relay deployment insights back to engineering and product teams.

• Collaborate on feature testing, peripheral integrations, and platform enhancements.

• Develop internal expertise regarding AI-enabled applications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in robot programming or related software experience.

• Previous knowledge of robotics and hands-on experience with robots.

• Basic understanding of machine learning models and techniques, including convolutional neural networks, object detection, and visual language models.

• Technical expertise in an engineering setting.

• Capability to write documentation and manage projects independently.

• Willingness to travel up to 50% domestically.

• At least one area of specialization in Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, or Machine Vision.

• Mechanical Design experience with pneumatics, camera mounts, or end-of-arm tooling; gripper design experience is a plus.

• Electrical Design experience involving custom board fabrication and wiring relays and solenoids in automation settings.

• Machine Vision experience in selecting cameras and lenses and deploying vision systems.

• Experience with collaborative robots such as UR, Fanuc, KUKA, ABB, or similar is advantageous.

• Hands-on experience with vision systems like Cognex, Basler, FLIR, or similar is beneficial.

• Familiarity with ROS or other robotics middleware is a plus.

• Background in manufacturing or industrial automation is a plus.

• Experience in a startup environment is a plus.

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; the application will inquire about visa sponsorship or transfer needs.
