This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Design and create aircraft modules, structural assemblies, and components.
• Develop design solutions that meet performance, manufacturability, weight, quality, and cost targets.
• Create layouts and assemblies for composite and aluminum aircraft structures.
• Assist with airframe integration and subsystem packaging.
• Work in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams from concept through to production.
• Assess design concepts and suggest enhancements for structural performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Generate 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
• Produce and release production-ready engineering documentation.
• Oversee design revisions and manage engineering change activities.
• Maintain CAD and engineering data in accordance with company, customer, and aerospace standards.
• Create Bills of Materials and assist with configuration management.
• Develop manufacturing drawings that adhere to ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
• Specify dimensions, tolerances, and inspection criteria.
• Aid Manufacturing and Quality teams in interpreting engineering requirements.
• Review designs and drawings to ensure compliance with aerospace standards and customer specifications.
• Enhance manufacturing, assembly, and inspection processes.
• Lead and participate in DFMEA activities.
• Identify design risks and apply mitigation strategies.
• Support testing for verification, qualification, and validation.
• Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective design actions.
• Address product performance and reliability concerns alongside Manufacturing and Quality teams.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to promote efficient production.
• Assist with prototype builds, testing, and production ramp-up.
• Evaluate components produced by suppliers and resolve design-related issues.
• Foster continuous improvement in design quality, product performance, and manufacturability.
• Support the implementation of engineering changes and the ongoing development of products.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering field.
• Consideration may be given to equivalent combinations of education and substantial aerospace design experience.
• A minimum of 8 years in aerospace structural design, product development, or aircraft engineering.
• Advanced skills in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, and drawing creation.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and aerospace engineering drawing development.
• Experience in conducting and facilitating DFMEA activities.
• Practical experience in designing composite and aluminum aircraft structures.
• Thorough understanding of structural design principles, mechanical systems, and manufacturability requirements.
• Experience in supporting prototype development, testing, and production release processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
• Capability to work efficiently within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Experience with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), UAVs, or autonomous aircraft programs.
• Familiarity with Airbus engineering processes, standards, and documentation requirements.
• Experience with composite fabrication techniques and aerospace assembly methods.
• Background in lightweight aircraft structure design and optimization.
• Experience in supporting aerospace certification, testing, and structural validation efforts.
• Knowledge of aerospace configuration management and change control procedures.
• Understanding of stress analysis principles and structural design requirements.
• Experience in fast-paced aerospace product development settings.
• Experience supporting prototype, low-rate production, or sustainment programs.
• Eligibility for access subject to U.S. export control regulations; access may be restricted to U.S. Persons, including U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and individuals granted refugee or asylee status.
