Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement manufacturing processes for composite structures, subassemblies, and final aircraft assembly operations.

• Provide support for prototype, low-rate initial production, and full-rate manufacturing activities.

• Assess manufacturing methods and identify areas for process improvement, cost savings, and productivity boosts.

• Ensure that manufacturing processes meet quality, safety, and production standards.

• Work collaboratively with Design Engineering teams to enhance products for manufacturability and efficient production.

• Assist in manufacturing readiness activities throughout the product lifecycle.

• Create and maintain manufacturing work orders, routers, travelers, and shop floor documentation.

• Develop work instructions for composite fabrication and assembly operations.

• Convert engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications into production-ready manufacturing processes.

• Support the implementation of engineering changes and configuration management.

• Provide technical guidance and process documentation to manufacturing staff.

• Formulate methods for composite layup, bonding, trimming, curing, and assembly.

• Support production teams in executing composite fabrication tasks.

• Address manufacturing challenges, nonconformities, and process capability issues.

• Define, develop, and enhance aircraft assembly processes.

• Assist with assembly sequencing, work package development, and production planning.

• Participate in manufacturing readiness reviews and production build planning.

• Troubleshoot assembly issues and enhance production flow.

• Design and develop manufacturing tools, assembly fixtures, and aids for composite layup.

• Oversee tooling modifications, maintenance, validation, and continuous improvement efforts.

• Lead process improvement initiatives aimed at quality, cost, delivery, and operational efficiency.

• Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles to minimize waste.

• Engage in root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.

• Support process validation and assessments of manufacturing readiness.

• Contribute to the development, reporting, and monitoring of production KPIs.

• Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.

• A combination of education and substantial aerospace manufacturing experience may be considered.

• Over 8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering within aerospace, aviation, defense, or advanced manufacturing sectors.

• Proficient in developing manufacturing work orders, work instructions, routers, travelers, and production process documentation.

• Strong foundation in composite manufacturing processes, materials, and fabrication techniques.

• Experience in supporting aerospace assembly operations and production environments.

• Skilled in designing manufacturing tools, assembly fixtures, and composite layup tooling.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D CAD models.

• Strong capabilities in process improvement, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.

• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

• Capable of working effectively in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment.

• Experience in supporting UAV, UAS, or autonomous aircraft programs.

• Familiarity with conducting or supporting PFMEA activities.

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.

• Understanding of AS9100 and aerospace quality management systems.

• Experience in supporting prototype development, low-rate production, and production ramp-up efforts.

• Knowledge of composite curing, bonding, trimming, and structural assembly processes.

• Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), ERP systems, and production planning tools.

• Understanding of aircraft structures, tooling validation, and manufacturing readiness requirements.

• Experience in supporting Airbus aerospace programs or advanced aerospace manufacturing environments.
