Actuarial Analytics Director – Reinsurance

📋 Description

• Manage Portfolio Surveillance, Loss Model, Mark to Market, and Capital Adequacy reporting.

• Supervise loss reserving analysis and methodology for the reinsurance and RVI portfolios.

• Oversee Capital Charge Models applicable to all lines of business and the entire organization.

• Create scorecards to monitor concentration and accumulation risks.

• Review reinsurance transactions through peer evaluations.

• Design, construct, and maintain the complete reinsurance data pipeline.

• Develop and upkeep the reinsurance and treaty database along with its supporting data structures.

• Ensure that model inputs are verifiable and defensible for auditors, rating agencies, and regulators.

• Implement statistical and machine learning methods on insurance data, covering claims frequency and severity modeling, fraud and leakage detection, portfolio segmentation, and predictive underwriting triage.

• Conduct exploratory analysis on new business lines, designing necessary data capture to build credibility over time.

• Assist in new business development for both US and international markets, including conducting market research.

• Provide quantitative analysis and insights for business lines and corporate projects.

• Collaborate with Risk Management, the Guarantee business, and the Reinsurance business.

• Potentially oversee analysts and develop a team as the function expands.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, economics, statistics, or a related field.

• 7-10 years of experience in an analytical role, preferably in P&C insurance or reinsurance.

• 2-5 years of experience in managing a quantitative, actuarial, or data team.

• Proven experience in building or significantly rebuilding a data pipeline or analytical data platform.

• Strong preference for candidates with reinsurance, fronting, MGA, or program business experience.

• Capability to perform in-depth research on business issues and communicate findings effectively, both verbally and in writing.

• Ability to train, manage, and mentor small teams.

• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and collaboration skills.

• Strong intellectual curiosity and quick adaptability to new subjects, tasks, and skills.

• Solid understanding of actuarial principles, reserving and pricing techniques, compliance requirements, risk management techniques, and financial modeling.

• Exceptional skills and experience in data analysis and management.

• Proficiency in SQL and Python.

• Competent in Microsoft Excel.

• Familiarity with statistical software such as R, STATA, or SAS.

• ACAS or FCAS designation is a plus.
