Academic Counselor II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Deliver personalized and proactive academic advising to designated students.

• Enhance student retention and achievement through orientation, exposure to learning platforms, class scheduling, and monitoring of degree progress.

• Create course schedules for new, continuing, transfer, and reentry students.

• Maintain direct communication with students via phone, text, and email, responding within set timeframes.

• Track attendance, grades, academic progress, and financial obligations.

• Collaborate with faculty, academic leadership, and University support services to develop success plans and interventions for at-risk students.

• Clarify University policies and procedures, guiding students through academic processes, such as grade challenges and appeals.

• Assist new students in acclimating to the academic setting and review options for enrollment and graduation progression.

• Review academic records and assess progression toward graduation and candidacy.

• Support withdrawn or dismissed students in their reinstatement process and monitor their progress.

• Utilize the Student Information System, Learning Management System, and associated databases.

• Ensure compliance with FERPA and record management policies.

• Participate in counselor training and professional development activities.

• Mentor new Academic Counselors and assist with onboarding as needed.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.

• 3-5 years of experience in academic advising or academic counseling.

• Proficient in basic computer software (MS Office).

• Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management Systems or Student Information Systems; preference for Campus Vue/Campus Nexus.

• Exceptional customer service skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Excellent interpersonal skills when interacting with students and faculty.

• Effective organizational skills and problem-solving capabilities.

• Ability to communicate and function effectively as part of a team.

• Capacity to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and supervisors in a virtual setting.

• Proficient in presenting information and addressing questions or requests from students, staff, and faculty.

• Capable of generating and acting upon academic reports and forecasts.

• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and with other departments.

• Flexibility to adapt to changing assignments and manage multiple priorities.

• Self-sufficient in working without close supervision, setting personal priorities, and managing a work schedule.

• Customer service experience is preferred.

• A Master’s degree is preferred.
