Wildlife Conservation Biologist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Plan, organize, lead, and engage in wildlife and habitat management initiatives within District 3 and throughout the WMD Piedmont Region.

• Collaborate and coordinate efforts with private landowners, land managers, consultants, corporations, NGOs, and governmental entities to safeguard wildlife and habitats.

• Execute agency programs and special assignments, which include biological data collection, providing technical support for human-wildlife interactions, handling animals, administering immobilization drugs for live capture, and conducting wildlife disease/mortality investigations, including field necropsies.

• Support district personnel with ongoing human-wildlife interaction challenges and outreach initiatives aimed at minimizing negative encounters.

• Contribute to wildlife surveys, monitoring, restoration, and research efforts.

• Develop and deliver wildlife programs for both public and professional audiences.

• Participate in joint agency and division meetings, plan and oversee projects, provide technical expertise, and evaluate program effectiveness.

• Report directly to the Regional Supervisor (Piedmont Wildlife Operations Supervisor).

• Travel daily, with occasional overnight trips and weekend work as required to meet landowners, attend meetings, and coordinate activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in wildlife or fisheries management, fisheries science, zoology, biological science, or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution, along with two years of relevant experience in wildlife or fisheries management.

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Familiarity with North Carolina’s wildlife and plant communities, including basic life histories and identification.

• Proficiency in operating and maintaining equipment and vehicles used in wildlife management, agriculture, and forestry practices.

• Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with resource professionals and convey technical information to employees and the public.

• Experience with personal computers and mapping software.

• Exceptional organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.

• A valid NC Driver’s License is required within 90 days of employment.

• All employees must present proof of employment eligibility on their first day of work.

• Degrees must be obtained from institutions accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
