Wildlife Biologist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Direct the Wildlife Management Division initiatives across a nine-county area in southeastern North Carolina.

• Offer professional insights and support to private landowners, land managers, corporations, and governmental entities regarding wildlife habitat improvement and population control.

• Deliver technical advice on managing nuisance wildlife and wildlife-related damage involving species such as American alligators, black bears, coyotes, white-tailed deer, and Canada geese.

• Create and present educational resources to professionals, organizations, and the general public.

• Collaborate on wildlife research projects and regular surveys.

• Act as the district coordinator for the collection of biological data.

• Track population trends of both game and non-game species.

• Examine and monitor wildlife health issues, including investigating diseases and conducting surveillance.

• Respond to wildlife emergencies and manage both living and deceased wildlife.

• Support inspections of fox and controlled hunting preserves, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and holding facilities.

• Assist the Law Enforcement Division with the identification, handling, and disposition of unlawfully held wildlife.

• Contribute to the development and review of state hunting regulations and agency policies.

• Represent the agency in state, regional, and national wildlife management collaborations and initiatives.

• Report directly to the Coastal Operations Supervisor.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, fisheries science, zoology, biological science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution, along with three years of relevant experience.

• A combination of education and experience may be considered equivalent.

• Knowledge of advanced scientific methods, biological techniques, wildlife biology, botany, forestry, and ecology.

• Familiarity with wildlife capture, immobilization, restraint, transport, and euthanasia methods.

• Strong communication skills for effective coordination with resource professionals and for conveying technical information to both employees and the public.

• Proficient in using personal computers, software applications, and smart devices.

• Exceptional organizational abilities, time management skills, and attention to detail.

• A valid NC Driver's License is required within 90 days of employment.

• This position is home-based in WRC District 4.

• Availability to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with frequent daily travel and occasional overnight stays.
