This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Offer immediate emotional assistance, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, regional resource navigation, and referrals through the NAN Hope Help Line.
• Provide tailored guidance and support to individuals and families in need of mental health, addiction, and wellness services.
• Evaluate client needs and develop personalized action plans.
• Connect clients with pertinent mental health, addiction, and wellness resources, including community programs and professionals.
• Aid clients in navigating mental health, legal, and social service systems, including appointments, paperwork, and follow-up care.
• Deliver culturally competent care rooted in Indigenous values, traditions, and holistic practices.
• Provide crisis support, safety planning, and access to emergency resources.
• Develop and maintain knowledge about local organizations and service providers.
• Keep accurate and confidential records of client interactions, progress, and referrals.
• Engage in continuous training and professional development.
• Report to NAN Hope Program Coordinators; Mental Health Staff will report to the KO Mental Health Program Supervisor.
• Degree, diploma, or training in social service work, mental health, addiction support, or a related field.
• A minimum of two years of relevant work or volunteer experience.
• Ability to build rapport with clients and establish trust.
• Comprehensive understanding of community resources, mental health services, and social supports, especially for northern First Nations communities.
• Proficiency in crisis support, stabilization, and effective de-escalation techniques.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated empathy and compassion in client interactions.
• Commitment to ethical standards, client confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
• Proficient in using technology and digital tools for client management, communication, and resource navigation.
• Ability to communicate in a NAN dialect (Cree, Oji-Cree, or Ojibway) is a valuable asset.
• Lived experience in a NAN community, either through residency or work, is considered an asset.
• Availability for overnight, evening, weekend, and statutory holiday shifts.
• Capability to work a rotating 4-on 4-off schedule of 12-hour shifts, alternating between days and nights.
• Occasional travel for training and engagement activities.
• Successful completion of a vulnerable sector criminal record check.
• A private and secure home office environment with dependable, high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity.
