VP/SVP, Finance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee the entire Finance function, encompassing FP&A, accounting, and cash management.

• Report directly to the CEO and manage a streamlined finance team.

• Develop the company's financial strategy and serve as the Finance representative on the executive team.

• Assist in reporting for the board and investors.

• Take ownership of the annual budget, scenario modeling, and rolling forecasts for revenue, headcount, operating costs, and cash flow.

• Provide monthly and quarterly plan-to-actual reporting, collaborating with operational leaders on performance drivers.

• Offer guidance to Sales, Customer, Marketing, and Product leaders regarding investment trade-offs.

• Counsel the CEO and executive team on key strategic decisions.

• Prepare materials for board meetings, investor reports, and readiness for upcoming funding events.

• Ensure audit readiness, including maintaining audited financials, defining metrics, and organizing the data room.

• Collaborate with Product on pricing strategies, packaging, revenue, margin, and customer-impact modeling.

• Establish revenue recognition policies for subscription and usage components.

• Define metrics such as ARR, net dollar retention, RPO, committed revenue, and consumed revenue.

• Model and govern gross margin, including inference, cloud, and vendor-related costs.

• Support enterprise deal desk activities, manage non-standard terms, discount governance, and contract reviews.

• Design sales compensation plans and their accounting implications.

• Supervise billing and collections for hybrid contracts.

• Ensure timely monthly closes and adherence to GAAP-compliant financials.

• Manage internal controls, policies, and procedures.

• Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, revenue recognition, and the general ledger.

• Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.

• Handle cash-flow forecasting, liquidity management, banking relationships, and treasury operations.

• Monitor burn rates, runway, and working capital.

• Lead and develop the finance team.

• Partner with the VP of People on headcount planning, compensation, equity, benefits costs, payroll, and HR systems.

• Create scalable finance systems, business intelligence tools, reporting frameworks, and closing processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive experience in finance leadership roles.

• Currently serving as an SVP of Finance or a VP of Finance ready for advancement.

• Comprehensive experience across the finance function, with significant expertise in FP&A.

• Background in a productized, enterprise B2B software company with an ARR between $50M and $100M.

• Familiarity with subscription or platform models and managing larger enterprise deals.

• Proven experience transitioning a business from cash-flow neutral to positive cash flow growth.

• Demonstrated success in building finance teams and evaluating talent within accounting, FP&A, treasury, and AP/AR functions.

• Strong understanding of SaaS metrics and their relationship to financial performance.

• Direct involvement in monthly closing processes, GAAP reporting, internal controls, and ASC 606 revenue recognition.

• Experience managing relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and banks.

• Player-coach leadership style, with hands-on experience in modeling, closing, or analytical tasks.

• Preferred: experience in revenue technology or CRM.

• Preferred: familiarity with hybrid subscription-and-usage models.

• Preferred: understanding of AI and cloud cost structures.

• Preferred: active participation in a strategic exit.

• Preferred: experience supporting capital raises or debt facilities.
