This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Provide strategic leadership and guidance for the property accounting department, which encompasses accounts payable functions and collaboration with third-party accounting partners.
• Recruit, cultivate, mentor, and assess the performance of accounting team members.
• Set performance standards, evaluate departmental efficiency, and implement industry best practices.
• Collaborate with operations and business leaders to improve service delivery and align with organizational goals.
• Drive the centralization of property accounting processes and develop scalable, efficient, and standardized operational procedures.
• Execute process enhancements, automation initiatives, and the adoption of accounting technologies.
• Assess new accounting technologies and industry-leading practices.
• Supervise the preparation, review, and distribution of property-level financial statements and reporting packages.
• Review and authorize reconciliations, work papers, journal entries, and associated documentation.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts.
• Monitor accounting performance indicators and suggest corrective measures.
• Uphold internal controls and accounting practices to ensure compliance with policies, regulations, and GAAP standards.
• Manage audit preparation and coordination, including requests from owners, lenders, and external auditors.
• Oversee financial risks, compliance with debt covenants, and obligations related to accounting.
• Develop and uphold policies, procedures, and governance standards.
• Act as the primary accounting liaison for property operations, asset management, ownership groups, lenders, auditors, and other stakeholders.
• Convey financial data, operational impacts, and accounting recommendations to executive leadership and stakeholders.
• Assist with acquisitions, transitions, integrations, and other initiatives related to growth.
• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance.
• A minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership position overseeing accounting operations and teams.
• 8+ years of experience in the multifamily property management, real estate, or real estate investment sectors.
• Proven track record in leading centralized accounting teams and scalable shared-service operations.
• Experience managing accounting integrations related to acquisitions, portfolio transitions, and organizational growth initiatives is preferred.
• Experience in leading property management system conversions and large-scale portfolio migrations, including platforms like RealPage, Yardi, and Entrata.
• Advanced understanding of property accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and audit processes.
• Demonstrated expertise in process improvement, workflow optimization, automation, and the implementation of financial systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficient with RealPage and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Capability to sit, stand, walk, communicate, and use hands for operating office equipment and technology.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
• Capacity to sit or stand for extended periods while engaging in computer-based tasks.
• Willingness to travel between communities, meetings, and business events as required.
• Up to 15% travel may be necessary.
• CPA designation is highly preferred.
