This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Establish and advance the research trajectory for core intelligence, focusing on context representation, memory, reasoning, planning, and orchestration.
• Determine whether to create new model architectures or adapt existing frontier open-source or commercial models.
• Develop evaluation frameworks that assess real-world applicability, robustness, safety, and long-term behavior, moving beyond superficial benchmarks.
• Take ownership of alignment, safety, and guardrail strategies as essential product considerations.
• Lead the exploration of cutting-edge techniques, including retrieval-augmented training, mixture-of-experts, distillation, multi-agent orchestration, and multimodal systems.
• Influence the early direction of product intelligence in close collaboration with product and application engineering teams.
• Set a high standard for research rigor, judgment, and quality throughout the organization.
• Extensive experience in building or evolving real Machine Learning (ML) systems deployed in production environments.
• Proven expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is essential.
• Strong technical acumen regarding model behavior, potential failure modes, and long-term trade-offs.
• A builder's mindset; you prioritize functional systems that operate effectively in the real world, beyond just theoretical concepts.
• Capable of making irreversible or high-impact decisions despite incomplete information.
• A strong focus on evaluation, correctness, and the long-term performance of systems.
• A high ownership mentality; you function as a founder rather than merely a manager.
• Proficiency in tech stack: GPU-based training and inference systems, JAX, Python, and PyTorch.
