Senior Applied AI Research Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Investigate new AI technologies and engineering methodologies through practical experimentation and quick prototyping.

• Develop hypotheses, organize experiments, assess outcomes against established criteria, and translate insights into engineering suggestions.

• Play a role in defining and continuously refining the organization-wide AI Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

• Evaluate AI technologies, model outputs, and industry developments.

• Establish evaluation criteria and identify potential failure modes prior to widespread implementation.

• Generate documentation, reusable guidance, and recommendations for delivery teams and leadership.

• Transition between research, prototyping, engineering, architectural discussions, consulting, and organizational enablement.

• Work alongside the delivery-oriented AI rollout team through a continuous feedback process.

• Integrate ongoing challenges and patterns identified during actual project implementation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Generally, 6+ years of experience in production software delivery as a Senior Engineer or Technical Lead.

• Strong foundational knowledge in software engineering and architecture, covering APIs, distributed systems, testing, delivery practices, and maintainability.

• Practical experience with AI agents and agentic workflows.

• Familiarity with LLM APIs and model integration.

• Hands-on experience in evaluating and testing AI systems.

• Understanding of security, privacy, and ethical AI considerations.

• Proficiency with CI/CD and software delivery methodologies.

• Experience in observability and monitoring practices.

• Strong research and development mindset with the ability to create order from uncertainty.

• Critical thinking and systems thinking capabilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Practical approach to balancing experimentation with production realities.

• Experience in developing applications based on LLMs.

• Knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).

• Familiarity with tool/function calling and protocols such as MCP.

• Experience in API design and integration.

• Knowledge of data pipelines and data management.

• Proficiency in containers and cloud-native development.

• Experience with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, .NET, or similar.
