This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Act as a senior individual contributor within the foundation model team.
• Deliver hands-on technical input and help define model architecture, research trajectory, and implementation.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to transition AI technologies from research through validation to deployment.
• Design, train, and enhance cutting-edge foundation models utilizing large-scale multimodal clinical and molecular data.
• Foster innovation in pretraining, representation learning, self-supervised learning, multimodal learning, model scaling, and post-training processes.
• Create and modify foundation-model-derived models for prognosis, treatment outcome prediction, patient stratification, biomarker discovery, clinical trial applications, and tailored AI solutions for partners.
• Contribute original concepts to Tempus’s foundation model research agenda.
• Publish influential research and engage with the wider AI research community.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that models and AI products align with quality, validation, and regulatory standards for healthcare and life sciences applications.
• Ph.D. in Computer Science or a relevant quantitative discipline.
• Over 3 years of industry experience leading the end-to-end development of machine learning models, from research and experimentation to validation and production deployment.
• Proven expertise in large-scale deep learning and foundation model development.
• Experience in pretraining, representation learning, self-supervised learning, multimodal modeling, or post-training techniques.
• Strong history of original, high-impact research evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in prominent machine learning, computer vision, NLP, or related AI forums.
• Proficiency in Python and the modern deep learning ecosystem, including PyTorch.
• Solid product-level coding skills for model development.
• Comprehensive understanding of industry-standard software engineering and development practices.
• Experience in computer vision, NLP, pathology, longitudinal EHR, genomics, or other biomedical modalities is preferred.
• Publications in medical or healthcare AI and prior experience in developing foundation models are strongly preferred.
• Previous work in medical or healthcare AI is highly regarded but not mandatory.
