VP of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee Clever’s engineering department, establishing high standards for technical quality, accountability, and execution.

• Define the technical strategy for core systems, including decisions regarding technology extension, simplification, re-architecting, or replacement.

• Maintain technical engagement through architecture assessments, code evaluations, debugging, addressing production issues, and contributing directly when suitable.

• Enhance the process from problem identification to implementation and production rollout.

• Assist teams in simplifying project scopes and overcoming obstacles in complex initiatives.

• Elevate the quality of talent through recruitment, mentorship, organizational structuring, and performance evaluation.

• Propel AI-assisted engineering forward while creating platforms and guidelines to maximize AI utilization.

• Collaborate with Product and company leadership to develop solutions and make informed technical and organizational choices.

• Extensive experience in software engineering, including leadership roles involving engineering managers and senior technical leaders.

• Profound technical expertise in architecture, implementation, debugging, and production systems.

• Proven experience in inheriting and evolving intricate production systems.

• A solid track record of enhancing engineering execution while building and nurturing high-performing teams.

• Strong judgment in product and business matters, with close collaboration with Product and executive leadership.

• In-depth hands-on experience with advanced AI development tools.

• Clear perspective on how AI is transforming software engineering.

• Experience in guiding a startup through various growth phases.

• Background in leading a lean, autonomous engineering organization.

• Experience in modernizing or replacing significant legacy systems while supporting ongoing business operations.

• Familiarity with integration-intensive or operationally complex systems.

• Experience leveraging AI to significantly enhance the speed or cost-effectiveness of major engineering tasks.

• Knowledge of AWS, JavaScript, Python/Django, PostgreSQL, and Ruby on Rails, or experience in sectors such as real estate, fintech, marketplaces, vertical SaaS, or other operationally complex businesses.
