This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Spearhead the complete modernization of a vital EHR and billing platform designed for pediatric therapy practices.
• Become a part of an ambitious growth initiative: the objective is to increase the software business tenfold over five years through both organic growth and acquisitions, supported by dedicated private equity funding.
• Take ownership of the long-term technology vision while staying actively engaged—ideal for a director-level leader or an aspiring senior manager ready to step into a leadership role.
• Collaborate directly with a product-focused CEO and an experienced senior designer; take over two enthusiastic engineers who are well-versed in the codebase and eager for guidance.
• Cultivate the engineering culture, recruitment strategy, and best practices from Day 1 in an environment characterized by high trust and minimal bureaucracy.
• Develop HIPAA-compliant AI functionalities (such as ambient documentation, treatment-plan suggestions, and intelligent scheduling) that clinicians will appreciate and competitors will strive to emulate.
• Establish and communicate a phased modernization strategy that aligns with product, clinical, and business objectives.
• Provide guidance to the CEO and Board on architecture, AI implementation, and cloud investment strategies.
• Transition the legacy .NET platform to the latest .NET 8/9+ versions and eliminate outdated dependencies without interrupting active clinical operations.
• Substitute the legacy embedded UI with a modern front-end that complies with WCAG 2.1 AA standards (using React, Vue, or Angular)—and contribute to that codebase personally.
• Initiate companion mobile applications (leading the initiative, not necessarily executing the build) that enhance clinician usability and optimize patient workflow efficiency.
• Oversee HIPAA Security Rule compliance and advance SOC 2 Type II readiness by implementing a security roadmap with the aid of third-party audits.
• Infuse security considerations into product and design choices—such as multi-factor authentication, encryption, and secure-by-default practices.
• Deliver AI features for clinicians by integrating top-tier models and vendors—emphasizing applied AI over custom model development.
• Mentor and develop the existing engineering team into a high-performing unit; recruit as required by the roadmap.
• Represent technology to customers, partners, auditors, and the Board.
• Over 8 years of software engineering experience, including more than 4 years in leadership roles such as Director, Senior Manager, or equivalent.
• Proficient hands-on experience in the Microsoft .NET ecosystem—capable of being productive with this team in the short term.
• Comfortable personally writing modern front-end code (using React, Vue, or Angular), with a strong appreciation for consumer-grade user experience.
• A proven track record of addressing technical debt: you've taken a suboptimal system, determined what to retain and what to enhance, created a roadmap, and implemented it at a pace that the business can manage.
• Background in healthcare IT, digital health, or EHR/EMR software; familiarity with HIPAA-regulated environments is essential.
• Experience in delivering applied AI product features (including LLM/vendor integration) and utilizing AI tools in everyday development.
• A player/coach leadership approach: anticipate approximately 50% hands-on coding in the first year, transitioning towards leadership as the team expands.
