VMware Infrastructure Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Install, configure, upgrade, and apply patches to VMware ESXi and vCenter / vSphere.

• Construct and manage highly available (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), vMotion, and Storage vMotion clusters.

• Oversee VMFS and NFS datastores, datastore clusters / Storage DRS, provisioning, and snapshots.

• Design and sustain virtual networking utilizing vSwitches, Distributed Switches, port groups, and VLANs.

• Handle the complete VM lifecycle, which includes templates, cloning, P2V/V2V migrations, and performance troubleshooting.

• Provision storage comprehensively for ESXi, encompassing LUNs/volumes, host mapping, zoning/masking, and VMware datastore presentation.

• Conduct capacity planning, performance monitoring, and latency troubleshooting between ESXi and storage arrays.

• Deploy and oversee AWS EC2 instances, covering instance types, AMIs, key pairs, EBS volumes, and snapshots.

• Migrate or import workloads from VMware to AWS utilizing AWS Application Migration Service and VM Import/Export.

• Clearly document infrastructure to ensure operability by others.

• Collaborate closely with the infrastructure team to plan capacity and diagnose performance issues from the storage array through to the hypervisor.

• Support site recovery, business continuity, and hybrid on-premises/cloud environments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Hands-on experience in a production environment with VMware ESXi and vCenter / vSphere, including installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching.

• Practical knowledge of clustering technologies: HA, DRS, vMotion.

• Solid understanding of datastores and virtual networking.

• Experience or strong familiarity with Site Recovery Manager / Live Site Recovery and Storage Replication Adapter (SRA).

• Proven hands-on experience with enterprise storage presented to VMware.

• Familiarity with IBM Storage (FlashSystem / Storwize / SVC), Dell Compellent, EMC VNXe, or similar enterprise arrays.

• Working knowledge of Fibre Channel and iSCSI as well as storage provisioning for ESXi hosts.

• Capability to work independently from deployment through troubleshooting.

• Skill in producing clear documentation.

• Proficient in communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Experience with Cisco UCS is advantageous.

• AWS EC2 experience is beneficial.

• Knowledge of NFS, ESXi multipathing, array-side snapshots and replication, and VAAI is a plus.

• Familiarity with Rubrik, IBM Storage Defender Copy Data Management, or similar tools is a bonus.

• Certifications such as VMware VCP-DCV, IBM Storage, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, or SysOps Administrator are advantageous.

• Experience with PowerCLI, PowerShell, or AWS CLI scripting and automation is a plus.

• Background in Windows Server and Linux administration is beneficial.

• Experience with hybrid on-premises VMware and AWS configurations or VMware Cloud on AWS is a plus.

• Candidates must reside in Romania.
