This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and implement an enterprise underwriting strategy that aligns with the company's objectives for growth and profitability.
• Create underwriting guidelines, risk tolerance frameworks, and pricing methodologies.
• Collaborate with Executive Leadership to foster sustainable revenue growth while ensuring disciplined risk selection.
• Offer strategic insights regarding market trends, regulatory shifts, and competitive positioning.
• Ensure profitability in underwriting and monitor loss ratio performance across all lines of business.
• Supervise pricing integrity for fully insured and self-funded medical plans, stop-loss, ancillary, and specialty products.
• Track underwriting KPIs such as hit ratios, margin performance, risk scoring accuracy, and renewal outcomes.
• Work closely with Actuarial and Finance teams on rate setting, forecasting, and risk pool analysis.
• Lead, mentor, and expand underwriting teams across new business, renewals, large groups, and small groups.
• Enhance underwriting workflows, automation tools, and data analytics capabilities.
• Initiate process improvement projects to boost efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround times.
• Ensure uniform underwriting practices across different regions and teams.
• Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, including ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, and relevant DOI requirements.
• Keep audit-ready documentation and governance practices.
• Collaborate with Legal and Compliance to evaluate regulatory impacts on the underwriting strategy.
• Act as a strategic ally to Sales and Account Management to balance growth with risk management.
• Partner with Claims leadership to assess utilization trends and identify emerging risk patterns.
• Provide support for broker and consultant relationships as necessary for large or complex cases.
• Extensive knowledge of self-funded and fully insured health plan underwriting.
• Strong comprehension of stop-loss, level-funded, and ancillary products.
• Proven experience managing underwriting P&L responsibilities.
• Familiarity with federal and state healthcare regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
