This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Oversee Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for Johnson Controls' global network of manufacturing and supply-chain operations, including factories, warehouses, distribution centers, logistics activities, and related locations worldwide.
• Transform enterprise EHS directives into the network's framework, standards, expertise, assurance, and performance systems.
• Collaborate with regional and site EHS teams, while partnering with Global Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Human Resources, Sustainability, and regional leadership.
• Prioritize serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention as the key safety focus throughout the network.
• Recognize high-energy and high-consequence exposures while defining and verifying critical controls.
• Manage the EHS framework, risk-based assurance, and performance system.
• Formulate and implement a multi-year EHS strategy for manufacturing and supply-chain operations.
• Set standards and governance for occupational safety, critical exposures, and environmental management.
• Foster leadership accountability, employee involvement, stop-work authority, and a strong safety culture.
• Enhance a global EHS management system and risk-based audit and assurance program.
• Address significant regulatory issues in collaboration with Legal and enterprise EHS leadership.
• Integrate EHS requirements into capital planning, equipment procurement, facility design, automation, construction, expansions, relocations, acquisitions, and network modifications.
• Develop performance frameworks, executive dashboards, and conduct regular reviews; assist with executive and Board reporting.
• Lead, nurture, and enhance the global, regional, and site EHS organization.
• Promote network-wide learning from major incidents and high-potential events.
• Achieve first- and second-year objectives, including critical-risk baselines, verified controls, strategy endorsement, audit programs, performance dashboards, reduced serious injuries, and sustained environmental compliance.
• A minimum of 10 years of pertinent experience in EHS.
• Extensive progressive EHS leadership experience within a large, geographically diverse manufacturing, industrial, or supply-chain network, with practical experience on the factory floor.
• Executive-level background in developing and implementing global EHS strategies, standards, management systems, and assurance programs.
• Proven track record in preventing serious injuries and fatalities (SIF) through critical-risk identification, verification of controls, and engineering-led risk mitigation.
• History of fostering operational accountability and influencing senior leaders within a complex matrix without solely relying on functional authority.
• Experience in developing regional and site EHS leaders, succession planning, and resource alignment.
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
• Experience in organizations with extensive global manufacturing operations and established operational-excellence systems.
• Familiarity with integrating EHS into capital projects, engineering, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience in establishing global standards across various regulatory and cultural settings and varying levels of site maturity.
• Fundamental knowledge of SIF prevention, high-energy hazard identification, and critical-control management.
• Understanding of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and exposure assessment.
• Awareness of environmental compliance regarding air, wastewater, waste, hazardous materials, spills, and permits.
• Knowledge of EHS management systems and risk-based audit and assurance practices, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
• Familiarity with design-for-safety, engineering controls, and management of change for capital, equipment, and network transitions.
• Understanding of EHS performance measurement, leading indicators, and analytics.
