This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Direct Software Engineering, Quality Assurance / Quality Engineering, and Systems Administration / Infrastructure.
• Supervise the design, development, enhancement, maintenance, quality, reliability, and technical operations of the cloud-based SaaS platform.
• Report directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
• Convert the company's technology and product strategy into effective engineering execution.
• Collaborate with the CTO, Product Management, Business Analysis, and business leaders to prioritize engineering initiatives and formulate executable plans.
• Develop and spearhead the AI-driven engineering strategy, including the evaluation, adoption, governance, and application of AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Promote the use of AI and automation across development, QA, technical operations, testing, release processes, monitoring, and operational workflows.
• Establish, track, and communicate engineering performance metrics.
• Modernize software quality practices, including test automation, AI-assisted test development, regression testing, CI/CD, and release quality controls.
• Lead the engineering technology strategy and architectural direction, encompassing technical debt, scalability, performance, maintainability, and modernization.
• Define ownership, accountability, operating rhythms, delivery commitments, capacity planning, quality, risk identification, and issue escalation.
• Oversee cloud environments, deployment infrastructure, platform reliability, monitoring, backup and recovery, and operational resiliency.
• Collaborate with Product, Support, Advisory Services, Implementation, and other business functions to link engineering enhancements to customer and business outcomes.
• Manage departmental budgets, financial plans, resource allocation, vendor relations, contractor utilization, software licensing, and technology investments.
• Assist with business cases, effort estimation, resource planning, prioritization, and budgeting.
• Evolve the structure, skills, roles, leadership capacity, and operating model of the Engineering organization.
• Drive workforce planning, talent development, succession planning, recruitment, and performance management.
• Integrate security, compliance, resiliency, risk management, and AI governance into engineering operations and software development.
• Over 10 years of progressive experience in software engineering, technology operations, or software delivery leadership.
• More than 5 years of experience leading engineering managers, technical leads, or multidisciplinary software development teams.
• Proven experience in leading and scaling a multidisciplinary engineering organization of similar size and complexity.
• Experience in developing technical leaders, establishing management structures, and evolving processes as the organization expands.
• Proven ability to guide an engineering organization through the adoption of AI-enabled software development practices.
• Capability to measure and articulate the impact of AI-enabled engineering practices.
• Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with contemporary AI-assisted software engineering tools and techniques.
• Experience managing QA / Quality Engineering functions, including test automation, regression testing, release quality, and lifecycle quality practices.
• Experience overseeing substantial departmental budgets, financial planning, resource allocation, vendor relationships, contractor utilization, and technology investments.
• Experience in a metrics-driven environment, such as a private-equity-backed setting, including executive and Board-level reporting.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
• Strong understanding of SaaS application development, cloud platforms, software architecture, APIs, and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience in modernizing and enhancing established SaaS platforms, addressing technical debt, scalability, maintainability, and modernization.
• Familiarity with iterative planning, capacity management, CI/CD, release management, engineering metrics, and Agile or Lean methodologies.
• Ability to balance technical priorities with business objectives, budget considerations, and customer needs.
• Capacity to build and lead high-performing engineering organizations, including developing managers and technical leaders, coaching, performance management, succession planning, talent development, and attracting and retaining technical talent.
• Exceptional skills in executive communication and stakeholder management.
• Experience in leading distributed or remote technical teams.
• Experience in GovTech, municipal technology, enterprise SaaS, asset management, ERP, or public sector software is considered a valuable asset.
