Vice President, Development Services, Capex and Design Execution

📋 Description

• Oversee capital planning, FF&E strategy, and hotel opening assistance across Montage International’s portfolio.

• Manage DDS Capex resources to guide capital enhancement and renovation strategies throughout each property's lifecycle.

• Collaborate with Corporate Operations, Property Leadership Teams, and Ownership to establish a proactive capital planning approach.

• Provide executive oversight for annual capital budgets and long-term capital planning for the portfolio.

• Review project scopes, budgets, and schedules while supporting strategic decisions, escalations, and complex owner relationships.

• Work alongside Corporate Design to ensure smooth project transitions during the design phase.

• Foster partnerships with Ownership and property teams through open communication and strategic direction on capital investments.

• Act as Montage International’s FF&E subject matter expert during development, hotel openings, and lifecycle asset management.

• Lead the development and implementation of FF&E standards across the pipeline and portfolio.

• Assess design documentation, specifications, material selections, shop drawings, and product substitutions.

• Validate and monitor FF&E/OS&E budgets, provide cost estimates, track actuals, and assist with value engineering.

• Analyze procurement strategies and vendor pricing negotiations with owners, procurement agents, consultants, and project managers.

• Conduct factory visits, prototype evaluations, and quality inspections for custom furnishings.

• Address fabrication, installation, and quality challenges, offering executive recommendations on FF&E acceptance and corrective actions.

• Support field execution from the completion of design documentation through to hotel openings.

• Serve as a crucial on-site DDS team member during hotel openings, coordinating commissioning, punch lists, FF&E installation, and systems testing.

• Troubleshoot field issues and design decisions that impact schedule or operational readiness.

• Protect approved design intent, construction quality, brand standards, and operational requirements throughout commissioning and opening.

• Provide hands-on support across multiple concurrent hotel openings and assist with daily coordination and administration.

• Ensure effective communication between Operations, DDS, and Ownership, aiding in the escalation and resolution of broader issues.

• Undertake additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• An associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Product Design, Interior Design, Business Administration/Marketing, Hospitality Management, or a related field is required.

• A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in the luxury hospitality sector, focusing on design and FF&E, is required.

• In-depth knowledge of both domestic and international hospitality projects, including new construction, expansions, renovations, capital planning, and rebranding.

• Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously in a service-intensive, deadline-driven environment.

• Strong general knowledge of construction materials and methods, with specific expertise in the design and construction of luxury hotels.

• Self-motivated individual with a high level of personal integrity and business ethics.

• Proactive team leader adept at facilitating the review and feedback process of design documents across all disciplines, ensuring seamless coordination and flawless execution.

• Extensive network of national and international vendors, distributors, and manufacturers related to Architecture, FF&E, and OS&E products.

• Proven capability to interpret complete drawing sets and specifications from Architects, Interior Designers, and other design team disciplines, including coordinating interdependencies among all design functions.

• Exceptional attention to detail, with a keen eye for luxury products and guest experience, and the ability to value engineer without compromising design intent or quality.

• Outstanding leadership qualities to successfully align and integrate development partners, owners, design and architecture teams, development services, Operations, and your own team, fostering a collaborative atmosphere to reach common objectives.

• Strong written, verbal, and listening communication skills, facilitating clear and concise interactions with team members, stakeholders, and vendors; excellent organizational and time management skills, thriving in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, cross-functional environment.

• Persuasive and diplomatic, skilled in gaining buy-in from senior stakeholders, negotiating and resolving conflicts, and being direct yet respectful of relationships.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam, Procore, and PlanGrid is preferred; familiarity with AutoCad is an asset. Willingness to learn new technologies, including AI tools.

• Strong interest in design trends as well as luxury hospitality and residential design.

• Ability to mentor and effectively motivate other team members.

• Disciplined adherence to schedules and consistent performance on deliverables.

• Willingness to travel 25% - 75% depending on project location and intensity.

• Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

• Requirements include walking, standing, grasping, holding, sitting, repetitive motions, and bending over.
