Vice President

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Provide strategic direction and oversight for SCIF’s fundraising, development, conservation, and educational initiatives.

• Set priorities, goals, and strategies that further SCIF’s mission and organizational aims.

• Create and implement fundraising strategies to enhance philanthropic contributions and broaden the donor base.

• Personally oversee major donors and prospects, focusing on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

• Lead major gift campaigns and comprehensive fundraising efforts alongside executive leadership, Board members, and development staff.

• Supervise and mentor Major Gifts Managers.

• Oversee conservation and educational programs through the Director of Conservation and Education Programs.

• Promote conservation and education objectives, including partnerships, scientific and policy initiatives, international relations, conferences, and educational programming.

• Cultivate relationships with donors, business leaders, government officials, foreign diplomats, conservation professionals, foundations, corporations, and strategic partners.

• Develop fundraising materials that articulate SCIF’s priorities in conservation, education, and mission objectives.

• Engage in strategic planning and senior leadership activities.

• Create and manage departmental budgets.

• Represent SCIF at meetings, conferences, conventions, donor events, and other external functions.

• Monitor performance, set goals, support employee development, and promote a collaborative culture.

• Collaborate across SCI and SCIF to leverage relationships, programs, communications, events, and resources.

• Manage, coach, and develop direct reports and participate in hiring, onboarding, performance management, employee development, and disciplinary processes.

• Conduct regular team meetings and maintain communication regarding priorities and initiatives.

• Support professional development, training, and succession planning.

• Attend industry meetings and events as necessary.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, communications, marketing, public administration, conservation, education, or a related field is required.

• An advanced degree is preferred.

• A minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, nonprofit management, conservation, education, or a related field.

• Proven track record in major gift fundraising.

• Experience in personally cultivating and soliciting major gifts from individuals, foundations, corporations, or other significant funding sources.

• Experience in managing, mentoring, and developing fundraising professionals and/or multidisciplinary teams.

• Strong strategic thinking and organizational capabilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to craft persuasive proposals, presentations, donor communications, and other fundraising materials.

• Strong leadership and people-management skills.

• Ability to establish accountability while inspiring and motivating staff.

• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and organizations, building partnerships around shared goals.

• A solid understanding of and commitment to hunting as a vital aspect of biologically sound and ethically responsible wildlife management and conservation.

• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that meets the requirements may be considered.
