Utility Infra Design Engineer – Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Create and assess underground outside-plant designs for fiber optic network installations.

• Design systems for conduits, duct banks, manholes, handholes, roadway crossings, and utility corridors.

• Conduct route evaluations and constructability assessments for both greenfield and brownfield projects.

• Integrate utility conflicts, right-of-way limitations, environmental factors, and permitting requirements into designs.

• Produce construction drawings, profile sheets, detailed designs, and permit packages.

• Execute technical evaluations of Utility Infrastructure Telecom Design QC packages.

• Ensure adherence to client standards, engineering specifications, construction criteria, municipal, DOT, utility, NEC, NESC, and client-specific regulations.

• Review conduit sizing, bend radii, separation specifications, depth of cover, pulling calculations, and access structures.

• Detect design deficiencies and offer engineering advice for corrective measures.

• Collaborate with utility owners, municipalities, transportation agencies, and permitting authorities.

• Assist in resolving utility conflicts, planning relocations, processing permits, and responding to agency reviews.

• Engage in design review meetings and constructability assessments.

• Provide engineering assistance throughout the construction phase.

• Assess contractor inquiries, RFIs, and field change requests.

• Analyze field conditions and propose engineering solutions.

• Support as-built development and project closeout documentation.

• Work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, utility stakeholders, permitting agencies, and construction personnel across various geographic areas.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field, along with 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.

• Availability to work from 12pm to 8pm Pacific time.

• Experience in civil infrastructure, utility design, telecommunications engineering, or OSP design.

• Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and associated engineering software.

• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, utility conflict analysis tools, and digital engineering/model-based design processes.

• Experience in designing or reviewing underground conduit systems and telecommunications infrastructure.

• Working knowledge of utility coordination, permitting procedures, and right-of-way regulations.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.

• Background in supporting hyperscale, broadband, municipal, utility, or data center projects.

• Understanding of underground utility engineering, subsurface utility coordination, and utility conflict analysis.

• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, DOT, utility accommodation policies, and telecommunications industry standards.

• Knowledge of fiber optic network architecture and OSP construction methodologies.

• Experience in performing quantity takeoffs, cost estimating, and constructability reviews.

• Candidates must provide relevant Autodesk Civil 3D design samples.

• Professional Engineering (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred but not mandatory.

• Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available currently or in the future.
