Underwriting Team Leader

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Underwrite both new and renewal business by assessing risk, establishing terms and conditions, and making decisions within delegated authority.

• Oversee the underwriting workflow through submissions, binding, policy servicing, and documentation, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.

• Track production metrics, including retention rates, risk distribution, and underwriting performance, to maintain portfolio quality and predictability.

• Analyze and address underwriting challenges, such as inspection results, service requests, and coverage modifications.

• Collaborate with producers, agents, and internal teams to ensure prompt communication and effective implementation of underwriting decisions.

• Provide leadership and coordination across underwriting teams, ensuring alignment, communication, and compliance with policies and procedures.

• Mentor and assist less experienced underwriters by offering technical guidance and sharing knowledge.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or a relevant insurance designation is preferred.

• Experience in underwriting, including multi-line or specialty insurance products.

• Proven ability to manage complex accounts and contribute to successful underwriting performance outcomes.

• Experience in providing guidance or mentorship in a team setting is preferred.

• An appropriate state-specific insurance license is required.

• Professional designations such as CPCU, CIC, or equivalent may be preferred.

• Strong skills in underwriting analysis and risk assessment.

• Knowledge of underwriting guidelines, rating methodologies, and regulatory standards.

• Ability to interpret policies, contracts, and coverage structures.

• Excellent communication and relationship management skills with producers and internal teams.

• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities in complex underwriting situations.

• Leadership skills to guide and support team members while promoting consistent execution.

• Fluency in English is required.
