This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +4 more states.
• Identify, solicit, underwrite, and sell both new and renewal accounts.
• Drive profitable growth that aligns with unit appetite and growth objectives.
• Provide insurance solutions for complex product liability exposures.
• Utilize advanced technical, sales, and analytical skills to evaluate and manage risk.
• Leverage internal and external data to make individual and portfolio risk decisions.
• Manage a designated book of business that involves high technical complexity.
• Implement risk selection, exposure and hazard identification, coverage analysis, and loss analysis.
• Adhere to underwriting tools, disciplines, strategies, and guidelines.
• Evaluate pricing components and rating methodologies in relation to exposures.
• Ascertain key questions, operational scope, exposures, and controls from limited risk information.
• Complete file documentation and clarify account decisions.
• Prepare rating instructions and proposals for agents.
• Oversee portfolio goals including premium, profitability, rates, retention, product mix, new business, and overall portfolio performance.
• Analyze financial reports and insurance performance metrics.
• Examine market factors influencing pricing across various books, regions, and nationwide operations.
• Prepare and analyze underwriting decisions, requirements, appetite, status, and declinations.
• Identify, solicit, pipeline, negotiate, and secure strategically aligned accounts.
• Market capabilities to agents while maintaining agency relationships.
• Monitor state and territory issues, regulations, and trends.
• Utilize market and competitor insights in account decision-making.
• Cultivate producer relationships to enhance yield and retention.
• Recognize cross-selling opportunities across different lines of business and customer segments.
• Collaborate with business units to provide comprehensive insurance solutions.
• Present Hanover products and appetite to agents and customers.
• Employ sales systems, tools, and best practices.
• Leverage Claims and Loss Control expertise during the sales process.
• Mentor underwriters and assist with team training.
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• 5-7+ years of underwriting experience.
• 5-7+ years of experience in driving agency relationships that result in profitable new and renewal business.
• Experience with high hazard product liability.
• Capability to identify, analyze, and solve problems while managing and prioritizing multiple concurrent projects.
• Knowledge of complex risks, pricing, trends, industry segments, coverages, and product knowledge.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changes, exercise influence, and advocate for change.
• Informal leadership skills and a willingness to mentor less experienced or newly hired underwriters.
• Strong communication and influencing skills with both internal and external business partners.
• Sound judgment, negotiation, and business decision-making capabilities within the designated authority level.
• Teamwork and collaboration skills across diverse teams.
• Ability to work remotely, in a hybrid setting, or onsite as determined by company business needs.
• Flexible work arrangements; the role may be hybrid or fully remote.
• Occasional travel to key specialty locations.
