This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +2 more states.
• Manage and expand an assigned portfolio of commercial surety business with moderate to high technical complexity independently.
• Identify, solicit, underwrite, and retain profitable new and renewal surety accounts that align with underwriting appetite and portfolio objectives.
• Cultivate and maintain robust relationships with agencies, brokers, and clients to foster business growth and retention.
• Analyze financial statements, operational exposures, bond obligations, and risk mitigation factors to make informed underwriting decisions.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to assess complex submissions and secure necessary approvals.
• Implement underwriting principles related to risk selection, exposure analysis, bond form review, loss analysis, and pricing.
• Convey underwriting decisions, terms, and recommendations to agents and brokers effectively.
• Oversee portfolio performance concerning premium, profitability, retention, product mix, and new business goals.
• Leverage marketplace and competitor insights to enhance decision-making and strengthen relationships with producers.
• Promote Hanover’s surety capabilities and identify cross-selling opportunities across various business units.
• Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes that impact the territory.
• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
• 2-5+ years of experience in Commercial Surety underwriting is necessary.
• 2-4+ years of proven experience in agency relationship management and business development are essential.
• A strong grasp of commercial surety underwriting principles, financial analysis, pricing, and portfolio management is vital.
• Demonstrated capability to assess and negotiate complex surety risks is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to confidently articulate technical underwriting decisions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and relationship-management skills are essential.
• Must be able to quickly adapt to changing business conditions and embrace new strategies and ideas.
• AFSB designation is preferred.
