This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Provide strategic guidance and insights for the underwriting division related to a specific line of business.
• Lead and manage the strategy, execution, and oversight of complex products and programs at the enterprise level.
• Establish and disseminate underwriting guidance and best practices throughout the organization.
• Act as a senior technical expert, consultant, and mentor within Corporate Underwriting.
• Assist with complex line-of-business inquiries.
• Oversee team workload, performance, and development while collaborating with regional offices.
• Influence business decisions through recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to companywide strategic initiatives alongside Field and Corporate Underwriting leadership.
• Own the strategy, execution, administration, and growth of the assigned line of business.
• Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert and supervise the implementation of strategies, products, and programs.
• Formulate short- and long-term product and underwriting strategies aligned with growth and profitability goals.
• Oversee profit and loss and manage the line-of-business business plan.
• Analyze premium, loss, and underwriting data to identify performance trends.
• Develop and communicate underwriting standards, tools, and best practices.
• Create new products and coverage language while overseeing innovations and their implementation.
• Assess market opportunities and product initiatives, recommending improvements for profitable growth.
• Provide rate-review analysis and actionable recommendations to regional offices and business units.
• Oversee proprietary and bureau rules, rates, forms, endorsements, and statistical coding.
• Evaluate regulatory impacts, prepare filings, and coordinate implementation.
• Advise on underwriting philosophy, risk acceptability, forms, rating, and risk management.
• Manage complex referrals, support authorizations, and determine or place facultative reinsurance.
• Lead special projects and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop and deliver training, workshops, and thought leadership content.
• Manage team performance, hiring, compensation, development, succession planning, DEI, innovation, and department budget.
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an insurance or business-related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Ten years of experience in commercial property and casualty underwriting, including at least five years in commercial staff underwriting within the applicable line of business.
• Insurance certifications such as CPCU, AU, or CIC.
• Previous experience in people leadership.
• Extensive knowledge of nationwide underwriting techniques, terminology, policies, products, and forms.
• Exceptional underwriting judgment and decision-making skills.
• Strong understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs) and methods to enhance them.
• Proficiency in computer software and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent presentation, communication, and leadership capabilities.
• Ability to advise, collaborate, influence, and consult with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, executives, and project owners.
• Ability to simplify and communicate highly complex issues for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to translate technical concepts into layman's terms for business clients.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record per company standards is required for driving.
