This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Underwrite and oversee a portfolio of highly intricate specialty accounts within extensive authority levels.
• Formulate and implement strategic initiatives that promote growth and profitability.
• Optimize profitable opportunities for new and renewal business.
• Create and sustain an active list of targeted accounts.
• Oversee the financial performance of the designated territory, including loss ratios, premium plans, and commission objectives.
• Ensure the quality of underwriting and the performance of the book.
• Execute underwriting strategies, manage the portfolio, and conduct self-audits.
• Guarantee adherence to underwriting standards and designated authorities.
• Make determinations to accept, decline, or modify risks within granted authority.
• Implement underwriting decisions in accordance with state regulations.
• Cultivate relationships with producers to meet growth and profitability targets.
• Identify coverage and service gaps in order to retain or acquire customers.
• Collaborate with claims, actuarial, and risk control departments.
• Travel to key producers and accounts to maintain a presence in the market.
• Assess agency needs and trends and apply proactive strategies.
• Communicate the company's appetite for underwriting.
• Monitor agency action plans and engage in account management, agency planning, and marketing meetings.
• Participate in industry events and committees.
• Analyze competitor information and producer-specific reports to facilitate territorial rate reviews.
• Suggest marketing, pricing, product, and systems initiatives.
• Provide training and mentorship to less experienced underwriters.
• Maintain and apply knowledge of competitive, regulatory, and legal environments.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of increasingly complex specialty lines underwriting experience.
• Professional insurance designation is preferred (AICPCU, RPLU).
• Expertise in Wood frame Builders Risk is preferred.
• Must possess a Property & Casualty (P&C) License or be willing to obtain one after onboarding.
• Strong understanding of exposures and key coverage concerns.
• Familiarity with competitive, regulatory, and legal environments.
• Ability to travel frequently to key producers/accounts.
