This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and oversee the regional Workers’ Compensation underwriting operations to achieve profitable growth, retention, and production targets.
• Manage underwriting strategy, portfolio management, pricing discipline, and risk selection within the assigned territory.
• Drive the generation of profitable new business while ensuring renewal retention and underwriting profitability.
• Evaluate Workers’ Compensation exposures, which includes payroll, class codes, loss runs, experience modification factors, return-to-work programs, and industry risk characteristics.
• Ensure adherence to company guidelines, delegated authority standards, state regulations, NCCI, and relevant independent state bureaus.
• Formulate and implement regional business plans in collaboration with executive leadership and distribution teams.
• Mentor and develop underwriting talent through coaching, technical training, referral guidance, and performance management.
• Act as the senior underwriting referral authority for complex or large Workers’ Compensation accounts.
• Establish and maintain relationships with retail agents, wholesale brokers, program administrators, and strategic distribution partners.
• Travel throughout the region for agency meetings, stewardship reviews, underwriting audits, business development initiatives, and industry events.
• Collaborate with claims, actuarial, finance, product, compliance, and operations teams.
• Monitor underwriting results, submission flow, pricing trends, loss ratios, renewal retention, and agency performance metrics.
• Identify market trends, competitive intelligence, and strategic growth opportunities.
• Support workflow optimization, underwriting automation, analytics, AI-enabled underwriting tools, and operational scalability.
• Ensure timely and professional service standards.
• Participate in strategic planning for regional growth, staffing, underwriting appetite, product expansion, and operational infrastructure.
• Perform other leadership and underwriting-related duties as assigned.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in Workers’ Compensation underwriting.
• Previous leadership experience managing underwriting teams, territories, or regional operations within Workers’ Compensation.
• Strong technical understanding of NCCI and state bureau regulations.
• Proficient in experience modification analysis.
• Skilled in payroll and class code review.
• Experienced in loss trend evaluation.
• Knowledgeable about medical and indemnity cost drivers.
• Familiar with large deductible and loss-sensitive structures.
• Multi-state Workers’ Compensation underwriting experience is preferred.
• Proven history of building and managing profitable Workers’ Compensation books of business.
• Strong relationship management skills with brokers, agencies, and distribution partners.
• Ability to analyze underwriting, actuarial, claims, and operational data.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
• Willingness to travel up to 30% within the assigned region and to corporate offices as necessary.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
