Loan Underwriting Specialist I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Assess and either approve or reject loan applications in accordance with business unit standards promptly.

• Collect the necessary information to make informed loan decisions.

• Evaluate the borrower's financial information, repayment ability, collateral strength, and overall creditworthiness.

• Review and verify appraisal reports for accuracy and compliance with established guidelines.

• Identify risk levels and provide approval recommendations.

• Consistently apply underwriting standards.

• Recognize and mitigate potential risks.

• Uphold strong documentation practices.

• Address inquiries from both internal and external customers.

• Collaborate with lending, operations, and risk teams to ensure timely and high-quality credit decisions.

• Perform additional duties as required to assist in achieving department and business unit objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Generally requires minimal prior experience or advanced education.

• May necessitate obtaining and/or maintaining NMLS registration.

• Capability to analyze borrower financial information, repayment ability, collateral value, and overall creditworthiness.

• Proficiency in reviewing and validating appraisal reports for accuracy and compliance with established guidelines.

• Ability to assess risk levels and formulate approval recommendations.

• Competence in consistently applying underwriting standards.

• Skill in identifying and mitigating potential risks.

• Strong documentation practices.

• Ability to collaborate with lending, operations, and risk teams.

• Must adhere to internal policies, investor requirements, and regulatory standards.
