Underground Miner – Jumbo Operator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska.

📋 Description

• Report to the Underground Shift Supervisor.

• Operate underground equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

• Carry out various underground mining activities such as truck driving, nipping, bogging, charge-up, service crew tasks, construction, long-hole drilling, and jumbo drilling.

• Minimize equipment downtime while maximizing productivity.

• Perform general labor tasks as necessary.

• Collaborate with the Shift Supervisor and the previous shift crew prior to each shift to gather work-area information.

• Ensure that tools and equipment are in a serviceable and safe condition.

• Conduct workplace inspections in compliance with MSHA regulations.

• Communicate clearly and effectively using a two-way radio.

• Immediately report any hazards, incidents, or injuries.

• Complete pre-start checks and report any damage before the end of the shift.

• Assist with fault finding and preventative maintenance tasks.

• Assess and monitor ground conditions.

• Carry out scaling as per site requirements.

• Engage in safety activities, including Hazard IDs, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.

• Maintain high housekeeping standards across all work areas.

• Perform additional duties as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Ability to provide leadership and training to new team members.

• Possession of a current Driver’s License.

• Familiarity with the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.

• Capability to pass a background check and post-offer physical examination.

• Experience in underground hard rock mining techniques.

• Proficiency in operating the jumbo within mine design and ground support standards.

• Skills to minimize rework and waste while identifying potential savings.

• Ability to maintain accurate records of jumbo daily activities.

• Competence to operate only with appropriate plans and a clear understanding of those plans.

• Experience in leading underground crews and mentoring junior team members.

• Basic mechanical knowledge.

• Strong communication skills, including the ability to read and speak English.

• Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.

• Basic computer literacy.

• Willingness to work 28 days on, 28 days off, for 11.50 hours a day or more at a remote campsite.

• Ability to work in extreme and changing weather conditions, including dust, mud, varying noise and light levels, and confined work areas.

• Employees must stay on-site at the company-provided camp during the work rotation.
