Transportation Technical Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Direct the technical execution of roadway and transportation initiatives from the planning stage to the final design phase.

• Ensure project quality through thorough QA/QC evaluations of plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.

• Oversee project teams, timelines, budgets, and staff allocation to guarantee effective project implementation.

• Offer technical advice and mentorship to engineers and designers.

• Create scopes of work, estimate fees, and assist in proposal development.

• Establish and nurture robust relationships with clients, including IDOT, counties, municipalities, and various transportation agencies.

• Aid in business development initiatives and pinpoint growth opportunities within the Chicago area.

• Engage in professional organizations, industry gatherings, and client discussions to enhance Michael Baker’s visibility in the region.

• Promote a collaborative team culture centered on quality, innovation, and professional growth.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

• Over 10 years of experience in transportation engineering.

• A Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.

• Proven experience in leading roadway or transportation design projects.

• In-depth knowledge of IDOT design standards, project delivery methodologies, and best practices in transportation engineering.

• Exceptional leadership, client management, communication, and team-building capabilities.

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Preferred experience as a Technical Manager, Project Manager, or Department Lead in a consulting framework.

• Familiarity with OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and other transportation design software is preferred.

• Experience in executing projects for IDOT, Illinois Tollway, municipalities, and local agencies is preferred.

• Design-Build and alternative delivery experience is advantageous.

• Demonstrated success in business development, proposal assistance, and client relationship management is preferred.
