Transformer Assembly Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Montana, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Execute field assembly of large power transformers with capacities ranging from approximately 15 MVA to 200 MVA.

• Assist in the installation and assembly of transformer components and accessories.

• Install and manage transformer radiators along with related components.

• Support activities related to transformer oil handling and circulation.

• Aid in the installation, connections, and field preparation of transformer components.

• Utilize knowledge of electrical theory during transformer assembly and service operations.

• Contribute to electrical and transformer testing activities as dictated by project requirements.

• Recognize and report potential issues regarding transformer assembly, components, or operations to project supervision.

• Adhere to established project protocols, safety standards, and customer specifications.

• Collaborate closely with client field leadership and fellow technicians to ensure projects are completed safely and on time.

• Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in line with field and safety expectations.

• Provide support for mobilization, demobilization, and travel between project locations as necessary.

• Travel via air and/or ground transportation to project sites.

• Remain on-site for assignments and transition between projects as new opportunities arise.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical experience in power transformer assembly, installation, maintenance, or field service.

• Familiarity with large power transformer assembly.

• Experience with transformers in the 15 MVA–200 MVA range or similar equipment.

• Background in transformer radiators and component installation.

• Knowledge of transformer oil systems and oil circulation processes.

• Experience with electrical testing related to transformer installation or servicing.

• Understanding of fundamental electrical theory and electrical system concepts.

• Capability to read and adhere to technical procedures, drawings, manufacturer instructions, and project specifications.

• Ability to work safely around high-value electrical equipment in utility, industrial, or power infrastructure settings.

• Willingness and capability to travel 100% of the time.

• Ability to work approximately 10-hour shifts when necessary.

• Availability for overnight shifts when required.

• Capacity to stay on-site for the entirety of an assignment.

• Flexibility to transition between projects as new opportunities arise.

• OSHA 30 certification is preferred.

• Prior field experience in assembling large power transformers is preferred.

• Experience traveling between transformer, utility, substation, or power infrastructure projects is preferred.

• Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision is preferred.

• Broader experience in transformer testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, or commissioning is a plus.
