This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Report to the Manager of Thermal Hydraulics.
• Work collaboratively with teams in Nuclear Methods, Nuclear Design, Code Development, Engineering, and Operations.
• Conduct and assess system-level thermal-hydraulic evaluations utilizing RELAP.
• Carry out and review subchannel analyses employing VIPRE.
• Prepare and validate VIPRE subchannel analyses, including CHF predictions and margin assessments.
• Prepare and confirm RELAP system-level evaluations, encompassing LOCA, non-LOCA transients, and design-basis assessments.
• Analyze system designs, operational functions, and engineered features to ensure required safety functions are met.
• Suggest design modifications that maintain safety margins and enhance system performance.
• Lead interdisciplinary thermal-hydraulic reviews for reload safety analyses, design alterations, operational concepts, and licensing deliverables.
• Identify margin sensitivities and impacts of cross-discipline interfaces.
• Assist in the development and upkeep of licensed thermal-hydraulic methods and their application in analyses.
• Uphold thermal-hydraulic modeling standards and assess the applicability ranges of methods.
• Provide guidance on code and model revisions.
• Facilitate the application of licensed methods to alternative regulatory frameworks and country-specific regulatory requirements.
• Manage interactions with core and fuel design, subchannel thermal hydraulics, and transient analysis.
• Deliver technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and oversee complex analytical tasks.
• Contribute to licensing technical/topical reports, license applications, and various licensing documentation.
• Engage in licensing discussions with government regulators.
• Prepare and validate engineering reports, calculations, studies, system descriptions, requirement specifications, and design documents.
• Develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges through multi-physics reasoning.
• Independently define problems, suggest solution strategies, and perform analyses with minimal supervision.
• Adapt to shifting organizational priorities, including urgent analyses, cross-functional reviews, troubleshooting, and special studies.
• Execute additional tasks as assigned.
• A minimum of a B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or a related field) from a four-year accredited college or university.
• An advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is preferable.
• At least 8 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience.
• Proven experience in implementing engineering design processes for subchannel thermal-hydraulics, transient analysis, and associated safety analysis.
• Preferred experience in neutronics or fuel performance.
• Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
• Familiarity with and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.
• Strong ability to understand and communicate effectively through phones, personal interactions, and computer systems.
• Capacity to learn new job functions and quickly comprehend, understand, and apply new concepts in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to travel nationally and locally using common modes of transportation.
• Ability to perform essential duties proficiently and accurately, with or without reasonable accommodation, without posing significant safety risks to oneself or others.
