This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Create, develop, and sustain Bazel-based build systems for extensive C/C++ embedded software projects.
• Optimize and implement Bazel Remote Caching and Remote Execution to ensure rapid and deterministic builds.
• Produce production code in Rust, C/C++, and Python for build tools, infrastructure services, and developer workflows.
• Take ownership of build performance aspects such as cache hit rates, execution parallelism, dependency hygiene, hermeticity, and reproducibility.
• Develop and maintain tools for developers to enhance local iteration speed and CI reliability.
• Integrate and manage build infrastructure in both on-premises and cloud environments.
• Troubleshoot build problems in collaboration with firmware, platform, and application teams to eliminate systemic bottlenecks.
• Enhance build-system observability using metrics, logging, and analytics.
• Guide engineers through code reviews, architectural discussions, and hands-on problem-solving sessions.
• Promote modern build practices and scalable development workflows.
• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience with a strong emphasis on hands-on technical ownership.
• In-depth, practical knowledge of Bazel in complex C/C++ and embedded environments.
• Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing Bazel Remote Caching and Remote Execution at scale.
• Proficient programming skills in Rust, C/C++, and Python.
• Experience in debugging and optimizing distributed build systems, CI pipelines, and build infrastructure under actual production constraints.
• Solid understanding of compiler toolchains, linkers, and build graph behaviors.
• Capability to articulate technical trade-offs clearly and influence teams through technical leadership.
• Familiarity with Nix and Nix-based packaging for reproducible builds and developer environments (preferred).
• Knowledge of BuildBuddy or similar platforms for Bazel observability/remote execution (preferred).
• Experience with Yocto-based toolchains and embedded Linux build workflows (preferred).
• Exposure to REAPI-compatible execution backends and remote build infrastructure (preferred).
• Background in supporting safety-critical or regulated software systems (preferred).
• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science or a related field (preferred).
• 12–15 years of relevant industry experience (preferred).
• Remote work; the role is designed to be performed outside the office.
