This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.
• Create and deliver designated content-area test items and assessment materials within established deadlines.
• Assist in all phases of the development of statewide testing initiatives.
• Generate item specifications, test blueprints, style guides, training manuals for item writers, and art specifications.
• Conduct workshops for item writers.
• Write, review, revise, and edit science test items.
• Formulate scoring guidelines and rubrics for constructed-response and performance assessments.
• Aid in range-finding activities.
• Develop pilot, field-test, and operational test forms.
• Contribute to the creation of test directions, practice assessments, and additional test materials.
• Assist in the final review and approval processes for items, tests, forms, and specifications.
• Facilitate state committee reviews, including content-item evaluations, bias assessments, alignment studies, and standard-setting activities.
• Collaborate with Senior Test Development Specialists, Project Leads, Directors, state department counterparts, contractors, item writers, and other team members.
• Delegate tasks and provide support to staff as necessary.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree in science, science education, or a related field is preferred.
• Master's degree in education or a related field is preferred.
• At least three years of teaching experience in grades 6–8 and/or high school science or equivalent experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the science content area, including curriculum and instructional practices.
• General understanding of industry standards in test publishing.
• Familiarity with best teaching practices within the area of expertise.
• Experience working collaboratively in teams as well as independently.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Problem-solving abilities to address complex issues when writing, reviewing, and revising items and constructing test forms.
• Capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and directions as necessary.
• Knowledge of national and state-specific curriculum standards.
• Experience in writing and editing test items.
• Experience in constructing test forms.
• Strong organizational and computer skills.
• Punctuality and reliability in reporting to work as scheduled.
• Ability to work under supervision and accept constructive feedback.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
• Capability to effectively relate to and work respectfully within diverse groups.
• Consistent performance during periods of increased workload.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
• Willingness to engage in business travel.
• Capacity to sit and/or stand for up to 8 hours at a time.
• Ability to use a computer monitor and keyboard/mouse for up to 8 hours daily.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds as needed.
