This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Conduct research, compose, and refine technical documents, including reports, magazine articles, newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, user manuals, and various research communication materials.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, researchers, and subject matter experts to convert intricate technical and engineering ideas into clear, accessible narratives.
• Execute comprehensive editing, copyediting, and proofreading throughout the production process.
• Confirm technical accuracy through interviews, research, and thorough fact-checking.
• Incorporate tables, schematics, and figures seamlessly with narrative content.
• Ensure that all content aligns with the GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and the TFHRC RD&T Communication Reference Guide.
• Uphold Section 508 accessibility standards and oversee copyright permissions and attributions.
• Manage documents and articles from initial outlines and interviews through various review cycles until final publication.
• Maintain version control throughout document management.
• Coordinate review and approval processes with FHWA contacts and external stakeholders as needed.
• 5–10 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, and publishing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related scientific/technical discipline.
• Proven expertise in applying the GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style.
• Experience in ensuring compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards.
• Background in supporting complex projects and transformation initiatives within the federal government.
• Capability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
• Preference for experience in the transportation sector, particularly in highway or surface transportation research.
• Strategic thinking with a proactive approach to marketing trends and technologies.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
• Capacity to manage competing deadlines effectively.
• Comfort in supporting intricate client relationships.
• Excellent analytical and time-management skills.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and collaborate effectively with others.
• Proficient in logical communication, both in writing and orally.
