This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Edit technical brochures, standard operating procedures, research reports, technical summaries, and other detailed documents from the Federal Highway Administration.
• Convert raw data and engineering/technical terminology into polished, publication-ready materials.
• Conduct reference checks, verify facts, and perform copyright compliance assessments.
• Utilize the GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style to maintain consistency across documents.
• Combine intricate schematics and data tables with narrative text seamlessly.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, researchers, and technical personnel to clarify intricate technical concepts.
• Oversee the entire lifecycle of assigned documents, from outline to final publication, including online and web publishing.
• Execute copyediting, proofreading, substantive editing/rewriting, and formatting for both print and electronic materials.
• Ensure all deliverables meet Section 508 accessibility standards and adhere to the TFHRC R&D Communication Reference Guide.
• Provide technical editing and publication support for federal research or transportation communication initiatives.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical writing or documentation.
• Preferred experience in highway or surface transportation research.
• Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, or a related scientific/technical discipline.
• Expert-level proficiency with the GPO Style Manual.
• Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style.
• Proven experience ensuring compliance with Section 508 accessibility for technical publications.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and critical-thinking skills.
• Capability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
• Experience assisting complex projects and transformation initiatives within the federal government.
• Expertise in managing intricate client relationships.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Strong analytical and time-management abilities.
• Skill in organizing, prioritizing, and collaborating well with others.
• Proficient in articulating thoughts, ideas, and solutions clearly, both in writing and verbally.
• Capacity to remain composed under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to accept client feedback and implement changes swiftly and effectively.
• Quick to learn and adapt to complex issues.
• Enthusiasm for working in a dynamic and rapidly evolving setting.
