Senior Manager, Technical Writing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical writers; conduct regular one-on-one meetings, provide constructive feedback, and support their career growth.

• Establish the vision for documentation, which includes selecting tools, creating style guides, and designing information architecture.

• Act as a liaison between Engineering, Product Management, and Support to seamlessly integrate documentation into the Software Development Life Cycle.

• Prioritize projects and manage the team's workload to meet release deadlines while ensuring high-quality output.

• Develop and execute a documentation strategy within a cross-functional organization.

• Review documentation for consistency, adhering to established standards and style guidelines.

• Maintain and enhance the Docs-as-Code workflow utilizing Git, Markdown, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Simplify intricate technical content into clear, concise documentation suitable for engineers, product managers, architects, and senior leadership.

• Generate technical documentation for APIs, SDKs, and integrations.

• Convert complex concepts into logical representations using architectural diagrams and accompanying descriptions.

• Write in a formal technical writing style.

• Conduct interviews with subject matter experts to gain insights into architecture and products.

• Collaborate daily with engineers, product managers, and architects to develop, publish, and maintain user-centric documentation.

• Utilize metrics and data to assess content effectiveness, pinpoint areas for review, and inform planning and prioritization.

• Create content optimized for searchability, SEO, and LLM.

• Continuously maintain and update documentation content management systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent military experience.

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in writing technical documentation for software solutions.

• At least 4 years of experience in people management.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience with Markdown and Git.

• Preferred: 5+ years of experience using documentation authoring tools such as Hugo, GitBook, and Confluence.

• Preferred: Experience in writing technical documentation for data security software.

• Preferred: Ability to convert highly technical content into clear, customer-friendly materials.

• Preferred: Capability to work with developers to transform content into understandable documentation.

• Preferred: Experience in writing within an Agile software development framework.

• Preferred: Strong knowledge of data management technologies and processes.

• Preferred: 3+ years of experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

• Preferred: 3+ years of experience in software development.

• Preferred: 1+ year of experience in the financial services sector.

• Preferred: 3+ years of experience working in an Agile environment.
