Technical Leader, Electrical, Controls & Operability Monitoring

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the overarching vision and technical strategy for a fleet monitoring team focusing on electrical systems and turbine controls/operability.

• Lead the design and ongoing enhancement of monitoring infrastructure, dashboards, tools, processes, and analytical workflows.

• Provide senior technical leadership throughout the monitoring lifecycle, encompassing issue investigation, requirements definition, analytic deployment, and continuous fleet monitoring.

• Direct intricate, cross-domain investigations of fleet issues that involve electrical and controls/operability systems.

• Guide the development of monitoring prerequisites, diagnostic logic, and performance metrics for analytics.

• Collaborate with analytics and engineering teams to create scalable and technically robust monitoring solutions.

• Supervise the execution of intervention strategies for identified fleet challenges.

• Represent the monitoring function in discussions that span multiple teams and disciplines.

• Mentor monitoring engineers and enhance technical expertise across electrical, controls, and operability areas.

• Promote continuous improvement in monitoring methodologies, detection logic, and team processes.

• Collaborate with the team lead on prioritization, technical direction, and capability development without formal people-management duties.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

• At least 10 years of professional experience.

• Extensive experience in wind turbine systems, with proficiency in at least two of the following: electrical systems, turbine controls, or system-level operability.

• Experience in developing or leading fleet monitoring strategies, diagnostic methodologies, or condition-based monitoring programs.

• Strong working knowledge of SCADA data, turbine alarms/events, and techniques for operational data analysis.

• Capability to convert complex technical information into clear, prioritized, and actionable monitoring strategies.

• Experience collaborating with data/analytics teams, engineering teams, and field/service organizations.

• Excellent technical communication skills suitable for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.

• Direct experience with wind turbine electrical systems and turbine controls/operability.

• Experience in establishing or scaling a fleet monitoring function or team from inception.

• Familiarity with analytics development lifecycles, including requirements definition, proof-of-concept development, and production validation.

• Proficiency in scripting/analysis tools such as SQL, Python, or MATLAB.

• Experience representing technical teams in cross-functional governance or review settings.

• Background in working within a newly formed team or function and developing processes from the ground up.
