Technical Lead, AWS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Facilitate the successful implementation of AWS programs, focusing on staffing, scheduling, risk management, quality assurance, and customer satisfaction.

• Develop the operational framework for AWS practices, which includes reference architectures, delivery playbooks, and reusable Terraform-based tools.

• Provide updates on the health of the practice, staffing requirements, and associated risks.

• Serve as the senior technical authority for AWS within the company, covering areas such as compute, networking, storage, data management, security, identity, observability, serverless, and container platforms.

• Establish and uphold Terraform-first Infrastructure as Code standards, incorporating reusable module libraries, policy-as-code guardrails, and automated drift detection.

• Manage CI/CD and GitOps methodologies, focusing on pipeline architecture, artifact signing, security gates, and automated STIG/CIS hardening.

• Promote compliance as code by correlating NIST SP 800-53 controls with automated evidence and integrating Security Hub, GuardDuty, Inspector, and CloudTrail for continuous monitoring.

• Design and evaluate architectures for AWS GovCloud and commercial regions that meet FISMA, FedRAMP, and Zero Trust criteria.

• Reduce operational inefficiencies through self-healing infrastructure, automated patching, runbook automation, and pipeline-based cost optimization.

• Maintain hands-on involvement with Terraform plans and technical troubleshooting.

• Lead the integration of AI into delivery processes, including agentic operations triage, IaC generation and review, control-implementation drafting, and documentation.

• Architect and implement regulated AWS AI workloads utilizing Bedrock, SageMaker, and related services.

• Set standards for the responsible and secure employment of AI coding assistants and agents.

• Guide and retain AWS architects, cloud engineers, and DevSecOps engineers.

• Develop certification and skills enhancement programs, and provide guidance on career paths and technical review practices.

• Manage technical relationships with the AWS Partner Network and work alongside AWS partner managers, solutions architects, and public sector account teams.

• Drive the requirements for AWS competencies, service delivery designations, Well-Architected Partner status, case studies, validations, and certification counts.

• Oversee partner program mechanics, including MAP, POC funding, credits, and co-sell registrations.

• Act as a solution architect for AWS initiatives, addressing architecture, staffing, transition strategies, and basis of estimate.

• Compose and review technical approach documents, respond to RFIs, and participate in oral presentations.

• Collaborate with capture and business development leads to define requirements, engage customers early in the process, and position AWS-native solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in cloud engineering or architecture, with at least 6 years specializing in AWS within DevSecOps or platform engineering roles.

• Expert-level proficiency in Terraform, including module design, state management at scale, testing, and policy-as-code enforcement.

• Preference for familiarity with CloudFormation or CDK.

• Practical experience in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for federal systems, utilizing tools such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or AWS CodePipeline, with integrated security scanning.

• Extensive knowledge of AWS security, including IAM design, Organizations and SCPs, KMS, network segmentation, Security Hub, GuardDuty, and logging architecture.

• Proven track record in compliance-as-code initiatives: automating NIST SP 800-53 evidence, STIG or CIS hardening, and continuous monitoring in support of FISMA or FedRAMP authorizations.

• Relevant experience in delivering AI or ML capabilities on AWS or utilizing AI tools within engineering and operations in regulated environments.

• At least 3 years of experience leading and mentoring cloud engineering teams.

• Up-to-date, practical expertise in AWS across core services, including AWS GovCloud (US).

• Must possess an active AWS Professional-level certification: AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional and/or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional; both are preferred.

• An active AI certification is required: AWS Certified AI Practitioner or AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate, and/or an Anthropic Claude certification.

• AWS Certified Security - Specialty and HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate are highly preferred.

• Experience in contributing to federal proposals as a technical solution architect or authoring technical volumes.

• Direct experience working with AWS partner and account teams.

• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance are required.

• Experience delivering services at federal civilian agencies where AWS is the designated platform.

• Proven history of advancing an AWS Partner Network tier or acquiring competencies and service delivery designations.

• Familiarity with multiple cloud platforms, particularly Azure Government.

• Experience with agentic AI frameworks and MCP-based tools for engineering and operations.

• Knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS) and container security practices.
