Senior Software Engineer – Fundraising

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Leverage engineering skills to enhance fundraising efforts and provide satisfaction to donors.

• Assist fundraisers in ensuring that donations are accurately recorded and securely initiated on their way to recipients.

• Inform donors and the public regarding the allocation and impact of their contributions.

• Create and maintain websites along with fundraising-related systems and integrations.

• Collaborate directly with fundraising teams.

• Define, implement, test, launch, and manage tasks independently.

• Resolve bugs and debug code written by legacy systems and other engineers.

• Take ownership of incidents and communicate with fundraisers during high donation periods.

• Utilize technologies including Laravel, PHP, plain JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Salesforce, WordPress, SQL, and partner-supplied CSV files.

• Work alongside non-engineers on complex, poorly defined, and rapidly evolving tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Authorization to work in one of the countries from which GiveDirectly is able to hire.

• Proficient in English.

• Over 4 years of engineering experience.

• Openness to remote work with meetings coinciding with East Africa Time and US Eastern Time.

• Willingness to travel periodically to meet colleagues in the US, Europe, and Africa.

• Comfortable with Laravel, PHP, plain JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Salesforce, WordPress, SQL, and CSV files; experience in all technologies is not mandatory.

• Capability to work independently, define tasks, test and launch work, fix bugs, and progress autonomously.

• Availability to be on-call during peak donation days and manage incidents, including communication with fundraisers and debugging legacy or others' code.

• Proficient in collaborating directly with non-engineers on complex, poorly defined, and rapidly changing tasks.

• Successful completion of a take-home coding assignment, live coding session, systems design, and behavioral interviews.

• Alignment with GiveDirectly's mission and values.

• Background, reference, criminal background, sanctions, and safeguarding checks may be conducted.
