Technical Implementation Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Facilitate discovery sessions with client functional departments, such as institutional research, registrar, admissions, student accounts, financial aid, budget, academic affairs, and others.

• Gain insights into institutional operations, including exceptions and local practices.

• Own and document configuration decisions for client data models, which encompass field and code mappings, cohort and population definitions, and calculation rules.

• Address definitional questions regarding institutional metrics and populations.

• Define configurations that manage source-data transformation and parameterization, and communicate these to data engineers.

• Collaborate with institutional stakeholders to ensure alignment of methodology with budgeting and reporting practices.

• Deploy and configure Tableau workbooks or Power BI reports.

• Conduct validation cycles with client stakeholders, document feedback, and resolve issues prior to go-live.

• Investigate validation discrepancies and trace them to their root causes.

• Provide post-implementation validation and investigation support to client-facing teams.

• Document client-specific business rules and configuration decisions.

• Assist with implementation handoff documentation.

• Offer implementation feedback and documentation for new products post-launch.

• Raise common implementation challenges to the product team for potential enhancements.

• Advise on data definitions and functional client use cases to guide technical development.

• Aid in facilitating power user training sessions with the Data Analyst team during implementation go-live.

• Travel to client or partner institution locations as needed, not exceeding 10% of the time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

• Over 3 years of experience working with higher education institutional data.

• In-depth knowledge of at least one functional area within higher education.

• Familiarity with the data structures behind at least one major Student Information System: Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Ellucian Colleague, or Workday Student.

• Practical understanding of standardized institutional reporting such as IPEDS.

• Foundational knowledge of SQL.

• Comprehension of how institutional data flows between systems, including its origin and transformation processes.

• Proficiency in Tableau, Power BI, or a similar data visualization tool.

• Strong Excel capabilities for data manipulation and reconciliation.

• Experience leading working sessions with stakeholders and converting discussions into clear, actionable requirements.

• Excellent communication skills, especially in conveying complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and the persistence to investigate discrepancies in numbers.

• Availability for US East Coast working hours is required.

• Willingness to travel to client or partner institution locations as needed, not exceeding 10% of the time.

• Nice to have: advanced SQL skills, including complex joins and window functions.

• Nice to have: experience with cloud data warehousing technologies such as Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery.

• Nice to have: familiarity with ETL processes or data pipeline configuration.

• Nice to have: experience in instructional cost studies, program viability analysis, or activity-based costing within higher education.

• Nice to have: quality assurance or user acceptance testing experience with data sets.

• Nice to have: experience with tools like Confluence, Jira, Smartsheet, Trello, or similar.

• Nice to have: experience with similar SaaS products that serve the higher education sector.
